A New Day to LISTEN UP

I’d had it with myself. Since January 1, I’d said every day I was going to start a diet.

I guess that was my problem. I said I was going to start my diet. I should have said I was going to finish my diet. Because all I’ve done since January is start it and not end my day well.

Did You Know Willpower Can Wane

In the mornings, we have greater will power and it can wane as we go through our day. Kind of like our energy.  If we’ve been trying hard to be “good” all day, by night, we can easily give into temptation.

But It’s a New Day

This morning, I had a serious talk with Jesus. I’m sure He was glad I finally “came round.” I told Him that every thought I had, I was going to assume it was Him directing me. (That was after I had prayed that He fill my mind with His thoughts.) So, I’ve been paying super close attention to my thoughts and acting on them. It’s been fun. I’m doing things in a different routine. I think it’s going to help break my night time snacking.

My New Day Routine

So this is what’s different after Listening UP to the Lord. Normally, after 5 p.m., I start winding down and cooking dinner. That usually involves me snacking on cheese and crackers. If you’re familiar with the book, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” then you can replace “cookie” with cheese and crackers. But, this afternoon, the thought came to me: change your evening routine. (Was the thought from Jesus? I assumed it was.)

Cooking Dinner at 2 p.m.

Instead of 5 pm cooking and downhill snacking, I decided to put salmon in my crock pot at 2 p.m.

Crock Pot Salmon and Squash

I’m not a chef and Uplift is not about recipes.  Rather, Uplift is encouragement for your soul. I’m convinced that if we Listen UP to God, our day will go much smoother.

Think of Jesus as not only Savior, but also as Mentor.

Everything we read in the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit, who is Christ’s Spirit and voice, is here to guide us. No, it’s not about the recipe, it’s about honoring God throughout our day…and evening.

My Recipe

I put Virgin Olive Oil, fresh minced garlic, lemon juice, dill, parsley, and ginger on the salmon and gently rubbed it in. Then, I topped it with rosemary. (lots!)

I had seen a recipe for Crock Pot Salmon that said to wrap the filets in foil, then place in the Crock Pot. But I remembered something about parchment paper being healthier, so I wrapped the filets in parchment paper; then in foil.

I decided to complete the meal. I cut up zucchini and yellow squash on another piece of parchment paper and tossed them with olive oil and rosemary. It’s going to be a rosemary evening.

I set that on top of the wrapped salmon.

A New Evening Routine

Tonight, I plan to go to the gym after 5 (part of  the new evening routine message). Hopefully, it will boost my will power so I resist, rather than give into, after dinner snacking.

What Do You Think

•Do you think God cares about our habits and if we eat healthily?

•Do you think He directs us when we ask?

•Have you ever prayed, “Fill my mind with Your thoughts, Jesus”?  If you’ve prayed that, what happened?

Heavenly Father, thank You that You hear us when we call to you. Thank You for giving us the mind of Christ and the Holy Spirit. Help us Listen UP to You.

The Lord is near to all who call on Him; to all who call on Him in truth. Psalm 145:18
