Forgiving

I AM FORGIVING

05/28/2014

“…forgiving one another, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

Colossians 3:13

Can you say, “I am forgiving.” Without Christ, it would likely be impossible for us to be forgiving. But, because we have received mercy, we can and SHOULD be forgiving. We may need to underline those words in our Bibles as a reminder of who we are in Christ: forgiven and forgiving. Does forgiving someone mean what they did was OK? No. Does forgiving someone mean you have to put yourself in harms way with the person again? No. Does forgiving mean the person won’t be judged or pay for what he or she did? The blessing is, we don’t have to figure that out. The person will stand before God. Vengeance is His. He will repay. (Hebrews 10:30) Our responsibility is to obey God and be the new creation we are in Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving me. Help me remember my identity in Christ. I am not the “old” me. I forgive as You have forgiven me.

FORGIVING

07/08/2013

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:9

What would you do if God wasn’t forgiving? Would you sin less? Or, would you quit trying to “be good” knowing it was impossible? Would you throw all attempts of righteousness out the door and be as sinfully indulging as you wanted? But God is forgiving. So, what does that mean for you? Does it cause you to want to live a less sinful life; one more pleasing to God? Does the awareness of all the “overs” God gives you create a deep sense of gratitude evidenced by you being less sinful and more like Jesus? God forgives you. What does that mean to you?

Lord Jesus, thank You for FORGIVING me of my sin. I pray I not take Your forgiveness lightly; but rather live a life that is increasingly pleasant to You.
