LORD OF SABAOTH

“Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.”

James 5:4

When I first read “Lord of Sabaoth” in James 5:4, I thought this name was a reference to the Sabbath. The context is God’s judgment of rich people who don’t pay their laborers their due and the workers’ cries reaching the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. However, this context has nothing to do with Sabbath rest. Rather, “Sabaoth” means host or hosts, especially in relation to warfare or service. Study this name in depth and you will find it is a reference to Jehovah Sabaoth’s reign over the host of angels, the air, nations, and demons. And to think, the Lord of Sabaoth heard the cries of workers who were treated unfairly by their bosses. Keep praying. He hears and will act justly.

Jehovah Sabaoth, I praise You! You are Lord of hosts. I worship You.
