I’m Mad

No. I’m FURIOUS. If you know me or have been around me, you know that’s not my normal state. But, last night, I was jolted to the core. I’d like to overturn some tables like Jesus did in the temple. I wonder if you might feel the same.

It Started Simple

Keith, my hubby, and I turned on the television last night for a few minutes of a Hallmark show. In changing channels, however, I was horrified to see “Fifty Shades of Grey” on prime time. If you’re not aware of the book, it’s a novel known for its erotic and sexual practices involving bondage, dominate/submission, and sadism/masochism (BDSM). It’s topped best-seller lists around the world, selling over 125 million copies worldwide and been translated into 52 languages. It set a record in the United Kingdom as the fastest-selling paperback of all time. It glorifies inflicting pain as part of “romantic sex.” How crazy is that? How unbiblical is that? If I wanted to watch porn I’d go to www.nu-bay.com not turn on my television during prime time!

I Wasn’t Going to Watch

But I was curious. Would they actually show the movie on prime time TV? Keith and I were horrified at the thought. He tried to assure me that they wouldn’t; they would take out sexually explicit parts. I was frozen as he turned off the TV. My mind went straight to our two oldest grandchildren who were with their parents at a party. Would the kids go into a game room and turn on the TV? Would they stumble onto this show? I wanted to vomit. I was afraid. I was mad. I still am, it felt like I might as well have just given them access to some porn website.

Satan Is All Over This

Satan is the mastermind behind perverting all that is good, lovely, and wholesome into what is evil, cruel, and hurtsome. Why, in an age where women cry for equal rights would they fall for the lie that they should be tied up and whipped? Isn’t that the war we’re fighting against terrorism – brutality, rape, and inflicting pain? What is wrong with us? Aren’t we free thinkers? Aren’ we a “Christian” nation? Which brings me to another disturbing point. The lead character’s name is CHRISTIAN. If that’s not Satan mocking Christianity, I don’t know what is.

Sick About This

I’m sorry – I’m ranting; which probably isn’t professional. But, maybe I don’t care. Maybe I care more about the souls of our grandchildren, and that I don’t want to get them hooked on pornography from places like www.tubevideoshd.xxx – if they really want to watch it that much, they can choose to when they are old and mature enough. Maybe I care whether our grandsons honor women and are sacrificially loving towards their wives like Christ loves the church. Maybe I care that our granddaughter keeps herself pure for a husband who will love; not exploit her. Maybe I care about those who are hooked on pornography and erotica.

A Call to Action

I want to do more than rant. I know of several groups that stand against pornography and also groups that help people break free of their pornography addiction. I’ll be posting those. Stay tuned. We can’t sit back and do nothing. We’re accountable to God and for one another. And, we’re accountable to remind each other of the good news of Christ’s love, forgiveness, and freedom from bondage.

  • How are you loving people who are in bondage and extending God’s grace to them?

Heavenly Father, we’re sickened by the perversion of Your laws and use of Your name in association with evil. Forgive us. Use us to Stand UP and be Your voice of grace, inviting others to forgiveness and freedom in Christ. Guide us to powerfully turn the tide back to moral righteousness and following You.

“for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the the Light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness…” Ephesians 5:9,11
