Do You Long to Hear God Speak

12/17/2019

There were twelve. And Jesus. They were in the vicinity of Caesarea Philippi. I was there in 1997 and we visited the nearby Grotto of Pan located at the mouth of a cave and from which springs sometimes flowed. Believing the cave was the entry gate to the underworld and in order to entice the return of their half man half goat god, Pan, people engaged in hideous acts of worship, including prostitution and sexual interaction between humans and goats.* Why did Jesus choose this “red light district” gate of hell to ask, “Who do people say the Son of Man is? Who do you say that I am?” And then go on to announce that the “gates of hell” would not overpower Peter’s confession, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” (Matthew 16:13,15-19)  I believe it was because Jesus was confronting the evil in His day rather than backing down from it. The Son of Man Son of God is the true God. The half god half goat is of the devil. But how did Peter’s correct confession come about? Jesus tells us. “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” (v 17)  If we want to hear more than the noise of our culture, we must devote ourselves to quiet time to hear God speak. Praise to Christ Our Passover

08/18/2018

“Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.”

  1 Corinthians 5:7

Anyone want to guess what the context was for Christ being described as our Passover?

Paul was rebuking the Corinthian church because of the immorality among them. He called them arrogant because rather than mourning over the situation, they turned their heads the other way. Paul is spinning their heads (and maybe ours) back in the right direction.

  • Someone has DIED because of our sin and immorality: Jesus. How can we think that accepting abiding sin is okay?
  • Jesus, the pure Lamb of God, was sacrificed. His death, His blood, is our atonement; covering our black sins.
  • “Clean it out. Get rid of the sin.” Paul urges. Christ, our PASSOVER, has been SACRIFICED on an altar that has our name on it.
  • Demonstrate our love, honor, and respect the Passover Lamb, Christ Jesus, by living for Him.

Christ, our PASSOVER, forgive us when we live for what You died for – our sin.

Praise to CHRIST, GOD’S SERVANT

11/17/2016

“Behold, My SERVANT whom I have chosen;…”

Matthew 12:18

God describes Jesus as His SERVANT. Whom did Jesus serve besides His Father? He served the disciples, washing their feet; explaining, “I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.” John 13:15.

Jesus served us in the ultimate way…washing our souls.

Now, He commands us to serve others. The ultimate service we can give to another? Share the life giving water; the message of salvation in Jesus; that what Jesus did externally when He washed the disciples’ feet, He does internally to the repentant sinner’s soul.

Whose soul are we serving today?

Lord Jesus, our souls need to be washed of the power and presence of sin. Only You can do that. Thank You, pure and holy Servant of the Living God, for washing us so we can stand before You, cleansed and robed in Your righteousness. May we be faithful to follow Your example and serve others.

Praise to CHRIST

02/13/2016

“Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”

Matthew 16:16

Jesus asked His disciples who others were saying He was.  Then He asked, “But who do you say that I am?” That’s a question every one of must answer. Simon Peter replied that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God. He got it right. Jesus affirmed Peter, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” (v17). Peter had a heavenly grasp on the fact that Jesus wasn’t just a prophet or good man. He was the anointed Messiah who had come to save us from our sins. Today, the question remains, “Who do you say Jesus is?”

Jesus, You are the CHRIST, the SON OF THE LIVING GOD, the anointed Messiah. I praise You!
