Psalm 32:8
When You Are at Your Wit’s End
Have you ever felt at your wit’s end…puzzled and perplexed about a situation?
Perhaps you don’t know what to do with a child or your marriage. You may feel at your wit’s end in regard to a work situation or friendship.
When we feel at our wit’s end it is often because we’ve exhausted our resources. We’ve tried everything we know to do and haven’t come up with a solution. Talking things over with a friend or family member hasn’t helped. Recommended books and resources haven’t provided the answer.
When we’re at our wit’s end, we do well to “stop, drop, and pray” as I write in Pray with Purpose, Live with Passion.
Stop and drop to our knees. Why? If we’re already “dead in our tracks” about what to do, what better place and before whom could we better stop? We bow because we are humbly aware that we need a higher power and His name is Jesus Christ.
We stop and drop to our knees because we want to hear from the Lord, who says in Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go…”
We’re bowed and quiet, looking up for divine help. We’re listening to what some call a still small voice and is, in fact, the Holy Spirit speaking into our spirit.
If you’ve never tried it before, I encourage you to stop, drop, and pray, “Lord, instruct me and teach me the way I should go… with my job, with this project, with my child, in my marriage, with this health concern.”
Lord Jesus, our INSTRUCTOR, we love and adore You and thank You for the promise that You will instruct us and teach us the way in which we should go. Help us listen well.

When You Wish You’d Handled Something Differently
Have you ever wished you’d gone in a different direction than the one you took? Have you reflected on words you said and thought, “I wish I’d said that differently.” If so, Psalm 32:8 is an encouraging reminder that we can handle things better in future days. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go…” Psalm 32:8 assures us. Yes, in addition to the Lord being our Savior and friend, He comes to us and says He’s willing to instruct us in the best way to go. That’s amazing, don’t you agree? We might wish for the top stock broker to advise us financially but not have access to him/her. We might wish for the most successful business person to be available to us, but not have a chance of getting an audience with them. But, here the LORD GOD is saying He’ll teach us. He’ll instruct us. Again, it’s amazing! He who has infinite understanding and an eternity of knowledge says He will show us the way to go forward. Why not pray now about a situation or relationship where you could use the Lord’s instruction to move you forward successfully?
Lord, You are infinite in understanding. Please instruct us today and quicken our ears to be quick to listen and obey. Thank you for the incredibly valuable gift of having access to You.
Mosey Up to Your Life Coach
Have you ever wished you’d gone in a different direction than the path you took? Have you reflected on words you said and thought, “I wish I’d said that differently.” If so, Psalm 32:8 is an encouraging reminder that we can handle things and communicate differently in the future. How it that possible? We have a personal life coach. Yep, someone who will give us personal instruction on how to live, relate to others, and even speak. Psalm 32:8 assures us, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go…” Think about those words. In addition to the Lord being our Savior and friend, He wants to instruct us so we live in the best way possible. Don’t you agree that’s an incredible gift and blessing? We might wish for the top stock broker to advise us financially but not have access to the person. We might wish the most successful business people would coach us, but there’s no chance of getting a personal audience with them. But, our LORD GOD says, mosey on up. I’ll teach you. I’ll instruct us. I’ll be your life coach, your business coach, your marriage coach. Amazing! The Lord, who has infinite understanding and an eternity of knowledge, says He will teach us. Why not pray now about a situation or relationship where the Lord’s instruction would help you?
Lord, You are infinite in understanding. Open our eyes to how Your Word is leading us. Open our ears to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
INSTRUCTOR
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”
Psalm 32:8
The Lord is infinite in understanding. He understands us and our situations better than we understand ourselves. Because of that, He is the premier one to teach us the way in which we should go. And, what’s more, He offers, “I will instruct you.” Could we want for more than the ONE who has limitless understanding of us, others, and our future to instruct us? I’m excited about His offer. “Lord, instruct me and teach me the way in which I should go,” is a prayer that makes sense and can easily flow from our lips.
Lord, You are infinite in understanding. I praise You, my INSTRUCTOR!
