Romans 8:26-27

Jesus Made Time for Prayer

11/23/2024

“I’m just so busy.” “There never seem to be enough hours in the day.” We can probably all relate to those statements at some point in our lives. Do you know who else was busy? Jesus. He was very busy during His earthly ministry. He traveled to different regions sharing the good news, ministered to crowds of people, healed the sick, and spent time shepherding and fellowshipping with His disciples and other believers. Even though Jesus was busy, He was intentional about spending time alone with God, the Father, in prayer. One example is found in Mark 1:35. It says, “In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.”

Not only did Jesus model spending time with God in prayer, but He showed us the importance of spending time alone with God. One-on-one time with God allows us to eliminate distractions and hear His voice more clearly. Matthew 6:6a says, “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”

<If Jesus felt that prayer was necessary, then so should we. Prayer is one way that we can stay connected to Christ and abide in Him. The Bible says that Jesus is the true vine and we are the branches. A branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine (John 15:1-8). We cannot bear good fruit in our lives unless we abide in Christ through prayer.

When Jesus ascended into heaven, He didn’t stop praying. Romans 8:26-27 says, “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

How comforting to know that the Spirit is interceding for us. Let us continue to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence in prayer, so that we may receive mercy and grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

Jesus, thank you for showing us what it means to be PRAYERFUL. Help us to prioritize spending time alone with You in prayer. Enable us to abide in You as You have called us to, so that we may bear good fruit.

Someone Knows Your Heart and Is Praying for You

When God says something one time, we need to pay attention. When He says it twice in the same breath, we need to sit up and take note. Romans 8:26-27 is an example of this.
26 Now in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with [a]groanings too deep for words;
27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the [b]saints according to the will of God.
God voices two times that the Spirit INTERCEDES for us and explains how He intercedes for us. 1) He intercedes with groanings too deep for words for things about which we don’t even know what to pray, and 2) having searched our hearts, the Spirit INTERCEDES for us according to the will of God.”  God the Holy Spirit helping us in our weakness, searching our hearts, and praying for us.  How extraordinary is that?

Holy One, what a joy and peace there is in knowing that You search our hearts and INTERCEDE for us. Amazing! Thank You!

God is ALL KNOWING as Psalm 139:4 explains. “Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you KNOW it all.”  He knows our thoughts, weaknesses, and heart better than we do. Romans 8:26,27. He knows our future. Acts 11:27,28. He knows what others are thinking, doing, and planning. He knows Satan’s schemes. There is no one to whom we can go who is more knowledgeable, loving, caring, wise, and invested in what is best for us. When we begin our day bowed before Him, confessing our love, proclaiming His majesty, and thanking Him for His grace, His ears are tuned to the confessions of our struggles and needs and those for whom we pray. Our confidence to enter into our day, our inner peace and joy rest not in circumstances beyond our control, but in our loving Father in whom we have placed our trust. Whatever lies before us, we know our Father loves us, will be there for us, and walk with us, guiding us along the right path. The wise believer acknowledges God not only in perfunctory blessings before meals but in intimate union, studying God’s ways, joined at the spiritual “hip,” His Spirit,” from the time their eyes open in the morning till their eyes close at night. Are we wise?

Heavenly Father, You are the ALL KNOWING, OMNISCIENT Lord, who loves us so much. Awaken us to the gift of Your presence to guide us through each moment of the day. May we live joyfully because You are guiding us through our day.

When God says something one time, we need to pay attention. When He says it twice in the same breath, we need to sit up and take notice. In Romans 8:26-27  God voices two times that He’s aware there are times when we don’t know how or what to pray. But, He knows our needs and what we need to pray for others.  So, here’s what our Heavenly Father wants us to know: “… the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself INTERCEDES for us with groanings too deep for words, and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is because He INTERCEDES for the saints according to the will of God.”  Twice, He assures us that the Holy Spirit will search our heart and then INTERCEDE on our behalf. How extraordinary is that?

Holy One, what a joy and peace there is in knowing that You search our hearts and INTERCEDE for us.  Amazing! Thank You!

Thank You, INTERCESSOR

Then, He INTERCEDES on our behalf. He speaks to God for us. How extraordinary is that?

Holy One, what joy and peace there is knowing that You INTERCEDE for us. Thank You!  We praise You!
