365 Days of Praise

 “He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).”

John 1:41

Jesus came to earth as a baby so that He might grow into a man, but not just any man. He came to be our Savior. He came to die for our sins. He came as our Messiah. Jesus’ cousin, John the Baptist, recognized that He was the Lamb of God who had come to take away the sins of the world. Andrew, who heard John’s proclamation about Jesus, followed Jesus and asked where He was staying. After spending time with Jesus, Andrew went and found his brother Simon Peter and told him, “We have found the Messiah.” Andrew was intentional about his search for the Messiah. He was intentional about telling others he had found Him. Shouldn’t that be being said about us? 

Jesus Christ, MESSIAH, You bring all good things: love, forgiveness, hope, peace, and joy! May I be as Andrew and be intentional about following You and about telling others about You.

 “O Lord, surely I am Your servant,
I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid,
You have loosed my bonds.“

Psalm 116:16

Do you ever feel “tied up” with some form of spiritual, physical, or emotional bondage? Or, are you concerned for a loved one who is in bondage?  In Psalm 116 we’re reminded that God can do what no one else can do. He can loosen cords that so tightly bind us that we feel we might die. And, even if we die, He reminds us that He will loosen the bonds of death and give us freedom in His heavenly home. “Unbind him and let him go,” Jesus commanded those who witnessed Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. “Unbind her,” Jesus commands when we call on His name. 

Lord, You are the great and mighty God who LOOSENS BONDS. I praise You!

 “When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, ‘Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and

I have the keys of death and of Hades.“

Revelation 1:17-18

Can you imagine what it was like for John to see the glorified Christ? To say that it was an overpowering experience is an understatement. John writes that “he fell like a dead man at Jesus’ feet.” John’s experience was more than a vision. Jesus placed His right hand on him. Then, Jesus assured John that although He had been dead, He was alive forevermore. In addition, He explained that He had the keys (power and authority) over death and Hades. No doubt you feel as I do – blessed beyond words that Jesus has flung open the gate of death and invited us into eternal life with Him!

Lord Jesus Christ, You who have the KEYS OF DEATH AND OF HADES, I praise You and thank You for bringing me out of death and into Your eternal light!

 “Now this man would go up from his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts (Jehovah Sabbaoth) in Shiloh. “

1 Samuel 1:3

My friend, Stephanie Shott, who addressed the name Jehovah Sabbaoth in her blog, Do Not Depart, shares the following: “Jehovah Sabbaoth is mentioned over 270 times in Scripture and means the Almighty, Sovereign, Self-Existent God over all the multitudes (whether an army, the sun, moon and stars, or creation itself).”

• In Psalm 24:10, The LORD of Hosts is the King of glory
• In Psalm 46:7 He is our Fortress.
• In Zechariah 4:6, He declares that He alone wins our battles when He tells Zerubbabel, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit…”
• And in Isaiah’s life-altering vision of the Lord, he heard the Seraphim speaking to one another, crying out, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3)

There is nothing He cannot do, nothing He does not know, nothing He cannot control, no enemy He cannot defeat, no heart He can not heal, no miracle He cannot perform. And how beautiful to know He longs to work in our lives and on our behalf as the LORD of Hosts.”

 “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

1 Timothy 1:17

“I can’t see God, so how do you know He’s there?” people sometimes ask. I think one of the best responses is found in Romans 1:19-20. “because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” In other words, look up at the glory of the heavens. Look around at the glory of the flowers and trees. Look within at the wonder of the human body. God may be invisible, but His presence is clearly seen.  

King eternal, immortal, INVISIBLE God, I praise You and thank You for the glory of Your creation and for making Yourself clearly seen through Your handiwork.

 “I kept looking, and that horn was waging war with the saints and overpowering them until the Ancient of Days came and judgment was passed in favor of the saints of the Highest One, and the time arrived when the saints took possession of the kingdom.”

Daniel 7:21-22

In today’s passage, Daniel is given a vision of future events. There will be a war and God’s saints will be overpowered UNTIL the One who is more powerful than any other, the HIGHEST ONE, steps in. I wonder if you feel as I do – honored and humbled to be on God’s side. And not only to be on His side, but to be designated as His saint; forgiven, washed, and anointed by His Spirit.

Lord God, there is none like You. You are the HIGHEST ONE, and I am humbled to be called by Your name; to be Your saint.

 “But the Lord was pleased
To crush Him (Jesus), putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering…“

Isaiah 53:10

Did you know that God distinguishes between when we sin unintentionally and when we intentionally sin? Yes, He notices. Yet, regardless of whether we were aware or unaware that our behavior was unholy and wrong, God is still willing to forgive us. Christ was still willing to lay down His life as a GUILT OFFERING. What a great and wonderful God the Father and Son! 

Lord Jesus, I praise You for willingly laying down Your life as a GUILT OFFERING so that I might be forgiven.

 “…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 12:2

Have you ever considered how much Jesus despised the shame of the cross?  Yet, He suffered through it in order to not only give us a start in our Christian walk, but to also make sure that our faith is perfected, complete, finished. It is with great gratitude that each of us should look heavenward in praise of our Lord and thank Him – the author AND FINISHER of OUR FAITH!

Lord Jesus, I praise You, the FINISHER of MY FAITH!

Darkness and light are alike to You.”

Psalm 139:7-12

I was in high school when these verses first caught my attention. They were so beautiful that I took my guitar in hand and made up a song. “If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me.” Which of the verses are your favorite? Which provide you the most comfort; knowing God is everywhere and that He is always with you?

Lord God, I praise You that You are EVERYWHERE, and that there is no place I can go and be apart from Your presence.

 “In that day the LORD of hosts will be
for a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty
to the remnant of His people.”

Isaiah 28:5 NKJV

Throughout time, people have sat on thrones and worn diadems (crowns). Some leaders have worn their crowns well and brought honor to their people. Others have brought shame to their people. The later was the case with the chief tribe of the Northern Kingdom of Israel at the time of Isaiah’s prophecy. In contrast to the drunken leaders who wore crowns of shame; Isaiah pointed to the Lord of Hosts, who not only wears a crown of glory, but is Himself a diadem of beauty!   

Lord Jesus, DIADEM OF BEAUTY, glorious One, I honor and praise You, my Lord!
