Help is On the Way
“I need help!” Have you ever said those words to someone? Has someone ever said them to you? “Help is on the way” is all I could think to say to a friend who once called me. She needed to hear those words. She needed to know I would be there to help her. But what if you don’t have someone who can show up at a moment’s notice and help you? In those times, remember that God is your help. Psalms 33:20 says,
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help.
Are you in trouble and need help? Are you in despair and need help? Unlike my friend who had to wait for me to arrive, the Lord is our present help. We need only call on Him. Learn more about God and how He is your help in my book, Pray with Purpose, Live with Passion.
Prepare to Meet Jesus
Do you “clean up” before something important? Maybe you have a job interview or are going to a wedding or out with friends. You put on clean clothes. Right? We prepare for who we’re going to meet. One of Jesus’s beloved followers, John, tells us that in preparation to meet Jesus, we should clean up. Or, in his words, purify ourselves from daily sin. Why? Because we’ll soon see Jesus. In fact, if we knew that we’d meet Jesus today, what would we do? Right a relationship? Refuse a temptation? The fact is, we never know the moment we’ll meet Jesus. Taking John’s word in 1 John 3:3 makes sense. “And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him (Jesus) purifies himself, just as He is pure.” Get “Prayers for of All Occasions” including prayers for confession and “Assurance of Salvation.”
What’s Going to Happen
Do you ever wonder what in the world is going to happen? Wars and rumors of war increase. Hostility, not peace, seems to be increasing. If you’re concerned over the future, you’re not alone. But God doesn’t want us to be clueless. As a matter of fact, He gave Daniel a vision of future events. Daniel records in chapter 7, verses 21-22 that there will be a war and God’s saints will be overpowered until the One who is more powerful than any other, the highest one, Jesus, steps in. I wonder if you feel as I do – grateful, honored, and relieved to be on God’s side. And not only to be on His side, but to be called His saint. That is what’s going to happen one day. Be assured you are on the right side. Read the “Assurance of Salvation” verses.
Perks of Prayer vs Perks of Pets
Did you know there are health perks to having a pet? But what if your idea of a pet is a pet rock? Are there other ways to become healthier? Yes! Studies show that people who keep a journal of their prayers experience health benefits such as less anxiety and more positive moods. They also tolerated pain better. And, for those who are married, findings show that when people pray for the well-being of their spouse when they feel a negative emotion, both spouses—the one praying and the one being prayed for—report greater relationship satisfaction. Journaling our prayers increase our awareness of God’s faithfulness and therefore increases our peace. So, sure, take your pet for a walk, but also walk prayerfully with God. Prayers of My Heart journal will get you started.

Portobello or Poblano – It Makes a Difference
Talking and laughing with friends as we entered a restaurant, my husband asked about the poblano soup special. Thinking about a Portobello soup I’d had, I replied, “It’s mushroom. Delicious!” When the soup arrived, I realized my not paying close attention had caused me to steer Keith in the wrong direction. Paying attention isn’t only important when ordering. It’s important every day in our fast changing culture. Pro-Choice may sound nice, but Pro-Life saves babies. Black Lives Matter, but all lives matter. In Matthew 5:13, Christ calls us to be light. We can only do that if we study the Bible to know His truths. In Acts 17:11, the Berean Christians were commended because they searched the Scriptures daily to find out if the things they were being told were true. Can that be said of you? If not, select a Bible study, know what the Bible teaches. Be the light.
Starring at the back of the airplane seat in front of me, I read the words, “Southwest 737 Safety Information.” A few inches below was another notice: “Literature Only.” The airline was clear. I was not to put my phone or anything else in the pocket that held their literature. They also wanted me to know and follow their safety information. I and others complied as you might expect. Everyone buckled their seat belt and put their bag under the seat or in the overhead bin. I couldn’t help but wonder why we comply with an airline company but often don’t comply with our Heavenly Father’s safety instructions. Anticipation: Do You Have It
One day while writing, I wondered in anticipation what words the Lord would give to me next. How ready are you for God to work in your life? What are you doing that shows your readiness and your anticipation? Knowing that God sees us and responds to our drawing near to Him should encourage us to live anticipatory lives. We anticipate Christmas. We anticipate Easter. Why not anticipate God? I believe the disciples lived anticipatory lives. They had seen Jesus do miracles so why should He not continue them? If you want to live a more anticipatory life where you see God working, begin recording the daily praise from my email devotional, “365 Days of Praise” in Prayers of My Heart. Ask God to make His character more real to you. Watch for how He’s working in your life. Go through your day in anticipation of what God is going to do.
Do you ever have a blah day? That happened to me some time ago. Not motivated. Not feeling the joy only God can give. If you can relate and it’s been a while since you’ve had grinning joy that causes you to race to God to thank Him, you can. How? What caused me to get the joy only God can give? One morning as I was praying, the Holy Spirit nudged me to do something. I wrote it in my journal, then quickly did it. The result? My spirit was filled with joy. No doubt the disciples experienced joy after returning from their first missionary journey. (Luke 10:17) They experienced joy as they followed Christ’s instructions. (Matthew 25:21) The next time you notice that there’s no spring in your step, go to God. Offer yourself to Him then follow through on how He prompts you. Experience grinning joy.
Extraordinary Spirit – I Want It
My husband, Keith, was recently teaching from the book of Daniel. Following along in my Bible, I read the king’s words to Daniel in 5:14, “Now I have heard about you that a spirit of the gods is in you.” In Daniel 6:3, the spirit of the gods is described as “extraordinary.” An extraordinary, not ordinary spirit, lived in Daniel and of course, also lives in us if we are a Christian. Do we hear the words of the Bible? Do we get it? Are we living by the extraordinary Spirit of the gods, of the God, the Lord Jesus Christ? If not, why not? Learn about the extraordinary Spirit who is in you and how to walk by His Spirit as Daniel did. Listen UP: 31 Points About the Holy Spirit.
Thank You for Trusting Me with Your Body
“Thank you for trusting me with your body,” the massage therapist commented at the end of my session. His comment startled me and caused me to wonder if a neck massage could have turned into a snapped neck. The fact is we do trust our body to people: doctors, massage therapists, nutritionists. More importantly, we entrust our body to Christ or the devil. Yes, Jude 9 records that Michael, the archangel, disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses. The devil wanted Moses’ body. That is a horrifying thought. It is equally horrifying to realize the devil wants our body and soul. It begs an important question. To whom have you entrusted your body? “Meet Jesus.”
