THE GOD of WEIGHTS Unable to go to the gym during THE GOD of WEIGHTS

Unable to go to the gym during the pandemic, I began working out at home. Although I’d worked out with weights before, I wanted refresher tips so googled recommendations for the number of repetitions. Soon, I became engrossed with exercise tips and found myself thinking more and more about them. Then, one morning as I knelt to pray, I noticed my weights a few inches from my Bible. God quickened me to the fact my newfound interest had been a distraction from my time with Him. Is working out with weights wrong? No. It’s great. The believer’s body is God’s temple and we’re to take care of it. But God is to have first place in everything. Has anything become a preoccupation with you and taken away from your time with God? If so, return to giving Him first place. Get your copy of Prayers of My Heart Journal to help rekindle your intimacy with God.

A WORD of ENCOURAGEMENT. Something to factor into A WORD of ENCOURAGEMENT. Something to factor into difficult days, situations, people. And yes, I’ve been feeding cows so my jacket is quite dirty. :) Subscribe to #beyondourselves #365daysofpraise at www.debbietaylorwilliams.com
As you look at the past year are your thoughts, “It’s been great!” Or, are your thoughts more along the lines of, “It’s been a rough or bad year”? Perhaps the “rough” or “bad” is related to the pandemic, finances, work, marriage, children, parents, or friendships. It may be related to your frustration with yourself, that you continue to struggle with sin. Whatever the case, something that God wants us to be mindful of is that He was there for us in the past and He’s not going anywhere. He’s staying by our side. As Romans 3:26 reminds us, He is “just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” It’s important for us to have an increasingly grateful heart for who God is and for His presence in our lives. It’s important for us, but it’s also important because of how we affect other people. For instance, who would you rather be around? A negative, cup is always half empty, grumbling person or a grateful person who is mindful of the blessings they have in Christ? Psalm 63:4 says, “I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.” Would you join me in making this year one in which we are intentional about living out Psalm 63:4? If you have Prayers of My Heart Journal, a great place to daily lift your hands in praise of God is in the Month at a Glance section. That’s where I daily write three+ praises to God. A second place to continue your praise is in the first column of the Week at a Glance section. That’s where I will record today’s character trait of God, “Justifier.” While I am writing it in my journal, I will lift up my heart and soul to Him and thank Him for justifying me in Christ Jesus. Yes, we can kick start our day with or without intentionally directing our spirit to bless the Lord and “lift up our hands in His name.” What will it be for us this year? Order Prayers of My Heart today for a donation of any amount. JOIN the POMH Gathering on Facebook for additional encouragement. Love you and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Debbie

The GIFT And coming into the house they saw the C The GIFT

And coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshipped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:11

What was your home like during the Christmas season when you were a child? Mine buzzed with activity as family members made gift lists for everyone from mama and daddy all the way to aunts, uncles, the postman, and anybody who might drop by our home. Love was the motivating factor. In buying a gift for someone, there is no selfishness. It costs not only money, but time, thought, and energy. Certainly no one has given more of Himself in giving a gift that would be perfect, timeless, and for all people than God when He gave His only begotten Son to us. The wise men recognized and worshipped God’s gift of Christ Jesus. They demonstrated their adoration by falling before Him and worshipping Him. This Christmas, as we demonstrate our love for one another by giving gifts, let us be careful to be as the wise men and not neglect to fall before Jesus and worship Him, the greatest GIFT.

Blessings, sweet friends, as we celebrate the gift of Christ.
How to Think Like an Angel How to Think Like an Angel
"And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she "And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths; and laid Him in a manger." Luke 2:7

The nativity is the centerpiece of Christmas. Here, in a humble manger, the magnitude of God’s love is seen. Christ came into the world not just for the rich, but for all people. As we decorate our homes with nativity scenes, let us be ever mindful of the Christ, who humbled Himself to become man. And not only man, but also babe. And not only babe, but poor for our sake so that we might know the richness of His glory.

Blessings, sweet friends, as we are mindful of Christ’s humility and follow His example.

CHRISTMAS PEACE Excerpt from "Preparing Our Hearts CHRISTMAS PEACE
Excerpt from "Preparing Our Hearts for Christmas," copyright Debbie Taylor Williams

“When are we getting our Christmas tree? Tonight? Tomorrow?” Vicki, my sister, and I could not wait for the annual tradition of selecting the massive evergreen that would stand as a centerpiece in our home for the month of December.
Although most of the time it was fun to select the tree, occasionally a few stressful moments crept into our otherwise fun filled evening. One of us might have our heart set on a short, full tree, while the other had her heart set on a tall, willowy one.

Upon arriving home, additional differences sometimes surfaced when deciding where to put the green giant or whether clumps or single strands of silvery tinsel should decorate each bough. I wonder if God ever shook His head at how easily our Christmas feathers were ruffled over the smallest details.

What about you? What ruffles your Christmas feathers? What upsets the peace and goodwill that is sung about during this season of peace? This year, let us remember that Christmas is not about the tinsel or the tree, but rather about Christ…the Prince of Peace.

"For a child will be born to us…And His name will be called…Prince of Peace.."Isaiah 9:6
