Feeling Spiritually Sluggish

Do you ever feel sluggish? You know – blah? Can’t quite find your “get up and go” even though there are things you could be, should be doing? Nobody likes that feeling. So what do we do when we don’t feel motivated to pray, work, or get moving? We lift up our souls to God.  (Psalm 143:8)  We read God’s Word regardless of how we feel and while reading we are encouraged and inspired. God’s thoughts become our thoughts. His passions are our passions. We ask our Heavenly Father to give us the mind and energy of Christ. The King James Version of 1 Corinthians 15:45 contrasts the first man, Adam, with the “last Adam,” Jesus, in this way: “The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a QUICKENING SPIRIT.” As a Quickening Spirit, Jesus arouses and invigorates us. Christ-followers are not spiritually dead. We’re alive. Pray and ask God to fill you with His Holy Quickening Spirit. Then pay attention to His promptings in your heart and mind.

TIP:  I daily open my Prayers of My Heart journal so I can record what God quickens me to pray and what He prompts me to do. Having our Bible, pen, and journal in hand shows God we are ready to listen to and follow His promptings.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus who is a Quickening Spirit! Arouse and invigorate us to do Your will.

Get Excited About This

07/12/2019
Stuck.  Just the way I am. Dread. Fear. Angst.  Can you imagine how Adam felt after being shut out of the Garden of Eden because of his rebellion against God?  His second born son killed his first born son. “How much worse can it get?” he certainly wondered.  The first Adam made a mess of things and every person born since carries his DNA.  What can be done? It’s been done. God started a new race with a second Adam, called the Last Adam in 1st Corinthians 15:45.  “The first man, Adam, became a living soul. The LAST ADAM became a life-giving spirit.” So here’s how it works.  God created the first Adam and breathed life into him. His heart beat. The earth man took a first breath and was physically alive.  After the first Adam’s fall, God sent Jesus, a Spirit man in an earth body. The heart beat in the first Adam. The Spirit beat in the Last Adam.  We didn’t get to choose if we wanted to be born of an earth man. We get to choose if we want to be born of the Spirit man. Get excited about this grand, heavenly, glorious opportunity to be born again. To get unstuck. To no longer be bound to just the way you were born.  To no longer dread your eternity. To have faith, not fear; peace, not angst.  Which of the following prayers suits you?

Prayer of Praise

Lord Jesus, I praise You, the LAST ADAM, for giving me a new birth through your life-giving Spirit.

Prayer of Repentance

Heavenly Father, forgive me for rebelling against you as Adam did; for hurting You and others. Thank You for Jesus taking my sins on His body and receiving the penalty of death that was due to me. I believe Your Son is Jesus Christ, whom You sent from heaven to give me new, spiritual life. Thank You for the promise of eternal life in Him. I repent of my sins and receive the gift of His Spirit with eternal gratitude. Cleanse me of my sins and fill me with Your Spirit so I can live for You.

“For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”  Acts 2:39

So what do we do when we don’t feel motivated to pray, work, or get going? We hold out our heart, soul, and mind to our Heavenly Father and say, “I’m Yours.” We thank God that’s He’s given us the mind of Christ in the Scripture. We read His Word  regardless of how we feel, and in the reading, we’re encouraged and inspired. His thoughts become our thoughts. His passions our passions. Praise to the LAST ADAM

06/28/2018
“‘The first man, Adam, became a living soul.’ The LAST ADAM became a life-giving spirit.”
Adam, the first man, brought sin and death into the world.  Jesus, who is called the LAST ADAM, brought righteousness and eternal life.
People are living souls. Christians are living souls who have received the LAST ADAM’s life-giving eternal Spirit.
Would you like for God to forgive your sins? Would you like to receive Christ’s life-giving Spirit? If so, repent and confess Jesus as the Son of God who died on the cross to pay your sin penalty. Receive Jesus’s eternal life-giving Spirit.

Prayer of Repentance

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus who died on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me and fill me with your life giving Holy Spirit.

Prayer of Praise

Lord Jesus, we praise You, the LAST ADAM, for giving us you life-giving Spirit.

“For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

Acts 2:39

Praise to the LAST ADAM

06/08/2016
“‘The first man, Adam, became a living soul.’ The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.”

The first Adam ushered sin into the world and thus, death. Christ, referred to as the LAST ADAM, ushered righteousness into the world, and therefore life. It’s one thing to be a living soul, which is what humans are. It’s another to have Christ’s life-giving spirit within you, which Christians have. If you’ve never received Christ’s life-giving spirit, receive Him today.

Prayer to Receive Christ: Lord God, thank You for Christ, the last Adam, who offers righteousness to me through His life-giving Spirit. I acknowledge that I’ve sinned against You and others. I know I can’t live a holy, acceptable life on my own. I turn to You and ask You to forgive me, wash away my sins, and fill me with Christ’s life-giving Spirit. Teach me to walk in Christ’s ways the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer of Praise: Lord Jesus, I praise You, the LAST ADAM, the life-gife giving spirit. What a joy to have You in my heart. You bring me all pleasure. I praise You!

Record your prayer, praise, and date in your journal, Prayers of My Heart.
