1 Peter 2:4
Jump on Your Opportunity
Have you ever had the opportunity to be a part of something grand? The fact is, if you are a Christian, you are a part of something grand. What? Being part of a holy priesthood who offers spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus, who 1 Peter 2:4 says is “choice and precious in the sight of God.”
Yes, of all the commitments we might make or of all the goals on which we might set our eyes, there is nothing more grand than to recognize and act on our holy calling to serve the Lord. Why? In the Greek language, the description of Christ as “choice and precious” means that God appointed Jesus to the most exalted office conceivable. 1 Jesus is held in honor and prized by His Father. 2
We, as believers, are described as a “spiritual house” for a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 2:5
Jesus is choice and precious, the most highly exalted One. When you sacrifice your time, money, energy, and worldly pursuits in order to pray, worship, and serve Christ’s purposes, you are choosing well and are a part of something grand.
CHOICE AND PRECIOUS Savior, we love You and praise You. Thank You for including us in Your priesthood and for the privilege of serving You.

Isn’t it amazing that our human nature often rejects what is good and gravitates toward what is bad? Although it’s sad, it’s true. Peter calls believers to realize that the person people reject when they turn away from Christ “is choice and precious in the sight of God.” (1 Peter 2:4) The Greek words “choice and precious” mean that God appointed Jesus to the most exalted office conceivable.* He is held in honor and prized by His Father.** Continue reading in 1 Peter 2:5 and your heart can’t help but be warmed. Jesus is a choice and precious living stone and believers are also living stones, being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood. For what purpose? “To offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” Oh my. So often we sacrifice for things on earth that are temporal. But to offer up spiritual sacrifices to God? That is a privileged calling and it is ours, my friend.
CHOICE AND PRECIOUS Savior, we love You and praise You. Focus our eyes on You and our time and energy on eternal rather than earthly, passing things.

Praise to the CHOICE and PRECIOUS JESUS
“And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God.”
Isn’t it amazing that often we reject what is good for us and do what is bad? Although it’s sad, it’s true. Peter, Jesus’s follower who ate fish with the resurrected Jesus, calls to us to, “Wake up!” Some reject Jesus, but let’s not be among those. Why? Jesus is choice. He’s precious to God. The Greek words “choice and precious” mean that God appointed Jesus to the most exalted office conceivable.* He is held in honor and prized by His Father.** If we’re in trouble. If we’re doubting. If we’re drifting or apathetic, turn. Go to Jesus. Cling to Him.

CHOICE and PRECIOUS
“And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God.”
1 Peter 2:4
For a big, burly fisherman, the apostle Peter’s choice of words to describe Jesus are significant. It is as if Peter is trying to convey to us the high value of our Lord. He’s not to be discounted, tossed aside, or ignored. He is Choice and Precious.
LORD JESUS, You are CHOICE and PRECIOUS in the sight of God and in my sight. I worship and adore You!
