1 Peter 2:6

The Foundation of Faith

11/24/2024

Are you a builder? If so, you know how important the cornerstone is when constructing the foundation of a building. Just as a cornerstone is necessary for a stable and strong foundation, Jesus is essential to the foundation of our Christian faith. He is described as a precious cornerstone in 1 Peter 2:6: “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

Did you catch that? Peter says that when we build our lives on the precious cornerstone of Jesus that we will not be disappointed. That is a divine promise. If you’ve encountered any disappointments in life, and no doubt you have, then you know what a blessed promise that is. As a matter of fact, what is your testimony of how something in your life initially shook you to the core, but Jesus, foundational to your faith, held you together?

In addition, and importantly in Peter’s description of Jesus, he uses the word “precious.” Whereas in some places in the Bible the word “precious” means excellent and of surpassing value, Peter uses a word that means “honorable, noble.” Yes, a neighbor might build a home on an excellent and expensive foundation, but it not be an honorable, noble one. The believer’s faith is built on not only a firm, excellent foundation, but on the Father’s noble, honorable Son.

Your life of faith is of great value. It is built on the precious cornerstone of Jesus, and as Peter writes, you will not be disappointed. Yes, although we may have disappointments on this side of heaven, get ready for the unveiling of what you have built your life on when the curtains are drawn and your eyes behold Jesus, the precious cornerstone of your faith.

Lord Jesus, You are the PRECIOUS CORNERSTONE of my faith. I love You. I adore You. I am not disappointed, but rather enthralled with You. Thank You for the incredible, eternal blessing of building my life on You. May others see my relationship with You and it draw them to also build their lives on You.

If You’re Disappointed

02/24/2024

Are you disappointed? If so, in what or whom? A person? Yourself? A job? God understands disappointment. Many things can cause us to feel let down. Sometimes our disappointment is because we have unrealistic expectations of others, which I address in my book, The Plan A Woman in a Plan B World. Other times, our disappointments are valid. First Peter 2:6 is encouraging because God wants us to know that there’s something He has provided that will never disappoint us: our faith in Jesus.

Peter records, “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

Not be disappointed. Read those words again. There is a person – Jesus Christ – who does not disappoint. He has a place He is preparing for us that will not disappoint. He has a day He is preparing that will not disappoint. He has eternity with Him that will not disappoint.

If you are dealing with disappointment today, do a quick check-up. On what have you set your expectations? If your answer is the amount of money you want to make, a certain house, the perfect spouse, children, friendships, or job, then you may find yourself dealing with disappointment at some point. If, on the other hand, your expectations are set on Jesus, the cornerstone of our faith, you will not be disappointed.

Lord Jesus, You are the precious CORNERSTONE upon whom we can build our lives and not be disappointed. Thank you.

If You’re Disappointed

Are you disappointed? If so, in what? Or, are you disappointed in a person? Or, are you disappointed in yourself? God understands disappointment. Lots of things can cause us to feel let down. If it’s a dollar amount, a certain house, a perfect spouse, children, friendships, a job, or even you being perfect then you will experience disappointment at times. But if you build your expectations on Jesus and your life on His teachings, you will not be disappointed. It’s our choice. Be continually disappointed or build our life on Christ.

Are You Living with Disappointment?

08/31/2019

Listen

Life is wonderful, but would you agree that it can sometimes be disappointing?  Yes, we might like to dream of a different life, but it’s not always possible. God said in Exodus 20:9 that work is a part of our life. “Six days you shall labor and do all your work.” Jesus said, as recorded in John 2:24 that He didn’t entrust Himself to any man, knowing what is in man. So what or who can we build our lives on so we’re not disappointed? Jesus.  First Peter 2:6 describes the hope to which we look: “I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, and he who believes in Him (Jesus) will not be disappointed.” There’s that word – disappointed. If we’re disappointed in ourselves, another person, or a situation, we do well to remember that we live in a temporary world. Christ is God’s precious corner stone on which our heavenly future is built. We may be living with disappointment today. We will not be disappointed in heaven.

Lord Jesus, You are the PRECIOUS CORNER STONE. Thank you that even though we may experience disappointment in this life, we will not experience it in heaven with You.

Praise to Jesus, the Precious Cornerstone

08/04/2016

“Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone,
And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed” (1 Peter 2:6).

Are you a builder? If so, you know how important the foundation is to the rest of the building. It is also true of our faith. As Christians, we must know that at the very foundation of our faith is the fact that Jesus Christ is God’s choice, precious Son. Knowing that, we can build our faith on Him. And as we do, we will not be disappointed.

Lord Jesus, You are the PRECIOUS CORNERSTONE of my faith. I praise and worship You!
