Colossians 1:13

You’re Getting Out of that Dark Hole

09/21/2018

LISTEN

Have you ever been in a “dark place;” a pit of despair? Perhaps you are now. Everywhere you look, it’s dark, and what’s worse – you don’t see a way out.  Hi. I’m Debbie Taylor Williams with Beyond Ourselves. If you have been there or you are there now, can you imagine what it would be like to be there forever, and to know that you’d never ever escape? God and Satan are powerful. They each have domains, or kingdoms.  Throughout the Bible, they’re spoken of: heaven and hell. Satan’s domain is a place of darkness. First John 1:19 explains “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” But, the good news of Colossians 1:13 is that Christ RESCUED us from that domain of darkness.  If you’re a Christian and in a “dark” place today because of circumstances beyond your control or perhaps even because of sin, be encouraged.  Your permanent residence is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Lord Jesus, You are our RESCUER! We love You! We thank You! We praise You!

Praise to Our RESCUER

“He RESCUED US from the DOMAIN of DARKNESS, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.”

Colossians 1:13

Have you ever been in a “dark place;” a pit of despair? Perhaps you’re there now. Everywhere you look, it’s dark, and what’s worse – you don’t see a way out.  If you’ve ever been “there” or you are now, can you imagine what it would be like to be there forever, and to know that you’d never ever escape? God and Satan are powerful. They each have domains…kingdoms.  Throughout the Bible, these domains are discussed. They’re heaven and hell.  Satan’s domain is a place of darkness. It’s not only a place, the Bible also speaks of darkness as a metaphor for “darkened” understanding; such as “ignorance about divine things as well as ungodliness and immorality together with their consequent misery in hell.”** 1 John 1:19 explains “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” But, the apostle Paul explains that Christ Jesus has literally RESCUED us from the domain of darkness. Just like a firefighter who dashes into a blazing building, rescues someone, and carries them to safety, our Lord has dashed Satan’s realm, RESCUED us, and carried us to His kingdom. If you’re a Christian and in a “dark” place because of circumstances beyond your control or even because of sin, Christ wants you to know that what you’re experiencing is temporary. He came from heaven to rescue you, and He’ll keep rescuing you. Your eternal place is reserved in Christ’s kingdom, and you’re invited to His presence today.

Lord Jesus, You are our RESCUER! We love You! We thank You! We praise You!

I AM TRANSFERRED to CHRIST’S KINGDOM

02/12/2014

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

Colossians 1:13

Work transfers. Plane transfers. We’re familiar with the concept. There’s a move – a change from one location to another. With the transfer comes a change in relationships, atmosphere, pay. Everything changes. But there is none that compares to God rescuing us from Satan’s domain of darkness and transferring us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. From darkness to light. From hate to love. From enslavement to freedom. From lies to truth. From guilt to grace. Say it proudly. Live it loudly, “I am trasferred to the kingdom of God’s beloved Son!”

Heavenly Father, there are no words to express the depth of my gratitude for You rescuing me from Satan’s domain and transferring me to the kingdom of Your beloved Son. I pray my life demonstrate the heartfelt thanks of my soul.

RESCUED from the DOMAIN of DARKNESS

02/10/2014

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

Colossians 1:13

If you’ve been in one of my Bible studies, you’ve probably heard me quote this verse. It astounds me. In this verse we’re told that there are two domains or powers of rule – God’s and Satan’s. God’s heart is for us to experience abundant life. Satan’s plan is to steal, kill, and destroy. John 10:10. Christ’s domain is light. Satan’s domain is darkness. You can’t find a greater contrast. The word, “rescue” has two meanings: “to draw to one’s self” and “to deliver.” As a fireman rushes into a blazing home, calls to a child, then rescues them; so Christ entered humanity, calls to us and draws us to Himself. Continuing with the fireman illustration, we know the fireman doesn’t stand in a burning house once he’s drawn a child into his arms. Instead, he runs out of the house and takes the child to a place of safety. Likewise, our Lord not only rescues us from hell, but also delivers us to a place of glorious safety, His kingdom. We are rescued.

Heavenly Father, Your love and power amaze me! My heart overflows with joy when I think of all You’ve done for me. Thank You for Your gracious, abounding love! Thank You for rescuing me from the domain of darkness.

RESCUER

04/20/2013

“He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.”

Colossians 1:13

There IS a domain of darkness. In the Bible, darkness is a metaphor for “darkened” understanding; such as “ignorance about divine things as well as ungodliness and immorality together with their consequent misery in hell.”** 1 John 1:19 explains “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” But, Christ Jesus has literally rescued us. Just like a firefighter who dashes into a blazing building, rescues someone, and carries them to safety, our Lord has dashed Satan’s realm, rescued us, and carried us to His kingdom. That’s something to think about with a grateful heart.
