TREASURY of WISDOM & KNOWLEDGE

10/03/2013

“Jesus Christ…in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

Colossians 2:2b-3

Are you at a place in your life where you have decisions to make and don’t know what to do? Perhaps you’re at a crossroads and trying to figure out God’s will for your future. Or, maybe you’re in a personal or business relationship and aren’t confident about the wisest way to move forward. Maybe your questions are of a larger nature – about life, who God is, and your purpose.  If so, look to Jesus, whom Paul explains is “a place where good and precious things are laid up;”* a treasury of wisdom and knowledge. In Him is the full explanation of God’s gift of salvation and our role and relationship to Him as we walk through life. We are not alone. We can look to Christ.

Lord Jesus Christ, I praise You, the TREASURY of all WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE to whom I can look.

TENDER HEARTED

10/02/2013

“Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”

Ephesians 4:32

Have you ever known a hard hearted person? It seemed that no matter how much you tried, they shut you out; if you did anything wrong, they were relentless and unforgiving.  No so with our Lord God. Although He could have every reason to be hard hearted toward us when we sin, instead He pursues us and forgives us. Oh, what a TENDER HEARTED Lord we have!

Heavenly Father, I praise You that You are TENDER HEARTED. How blessed I am to have You, such a forgiving Lord!

SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST

10/01/2013

“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

Hebrews 4:15

Have you ever felt so badly about your sin that you didn’t want to go to God in prayer? The writer to the Hebrews understood. However, he pointed out the flaw in such thinking. First, when we sin and are repentant, the place we need to be is at the throne of grace. Second, he reminds us that what we will find there is mercy, not wrath. In case we’re still hesitant, he explains that Jesus understands the power and pull of temptation. He experienced it. Now, the question is, will we hurry to the throne of grace and receive help in our time of need? Our Sympathetic High Priest awaits us.

Lord, I praise You that You are a SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST who invites me to draw near with confidence to your throne of grace!

SUSTAINER of MY SOUL

09/30/2013

“God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.”

Psalm 54:4

Do you ever feel “down and out,” like you can’t go on one more day? David knew what that felt like and found God to be the sustainer of his soul. What does it mean for God to be the sustainer of our soul? It means He is our support. It is in Him we find our minds, emotions, and will revived and not only revived, but braced for what is ahead. We can call to our Sustainer in prayer. We can daily sit in His presence and meditate on the truths and encouragement He gives us in His Word.  As we do, He will refresh and sustain us.

Lord God, I praise You, the SUSTAINER of my soul. Thank You for the many years, times, and ways You have sustained my mind, emotions, and will. I love You and praise You!

STRONGHOLD

09/29/2013

“My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,

My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge;”

2 Samuel 22:3

The words in 2 Samuel 22:3 are taken from a song David spoke to the Lord when He delivered him from Saul, who had been trying to kill him. In 1 Samuel 24:22 after an encounter with Saul, we are told Saul went home, but David went “up to the stronghold.” A stronghold was a high place, a refuge, a place of retreat, and for many years, it was David’s safe house. In his song, he praises God for being a stronghold; a high place and refuge to which he could return and find safety. Do we know God as our stronghold? If not, He invites us to come to Him. He is high and lifted up. He is safe. We can retreat to Him in prayer and find safety from our fears, wandering thoughts, and the fiery darts of the enemy.

Lord God, I praise You, my STRONGHOLD. Thank You that no matter the time or day, I can retreat into Your presence.

SPIRIT

09/28/2013

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

 2 Corinthians 3:17

There is much about God that we will never grasp or understand until we get to heaven. However, Jesus has explained God. In John 4:24, Jesus teaches us, “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.” In John 14:16-17, He describes the Spirit as another Helper, likening the Spirit to Himself. Later, He inspired Paul to understand that believers are to walk and live by the Spirit; (Galatians 5:16, 25) therein finding true liberty.

I praise You, Lord, SPIRIT.  Thank You for Your presence with me and the liberty I have in You!

SPEAKS RIGHTEOUSNESS

09/27/2013

“‘I have not spoken in secret, in some dark land…I, the Lord, speak righteousness,
Declaring things that are upright.’”

 Isaiah 45:19

Do you realize that the Bible is filled with the righteous counsel of God? Page after page, verse after verse pours forth His ways. You and I are wise to read it, meditate on it, absorb and practice what God speaks. There is no place where will we find such powerful words of righteousness than in the book the Speaker of Righteousness has given us.

I praise You, LORD God, who rather than speak in secret, SPEAKS RIGHTEOUSNESS through Your Word so I can hear and follow You.

SON of the MOST HIGH GOD

09/24/2013

“Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, ‘What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me.’”

Luke 8:28

Are you reading each 365 DAY of PRAISE? Are you as amazed as I am at not only the ways the Father, Son, and Spirit are revealed; but also through whom the revelation is made? The high priest asked Jesus if He was the Son of the Blessed One. Today, it is not the high priest, but rather a demon who acknowledged Jesus in the most profound of ways: as  Son of the MOST HIGH GOD. Demons recognize Jesus, His relationship to God, His authority over spirits, and power. Are we so wise to do the same in our daily lives and to give Him praise?

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the all powerful, wonderful SON of the MOST HIGH GOD. I pray my life reflects Your glory and my daily trust in You!

SHIELD

09/22/2013

“You, O Lord, are a shield about me,
My glory, and the One who lifts my head.”

Psalm 3:3

Do you feel under fire by a barrage of personal, financial, or other attacks? If so, take courage. Look up, into the face of your Heavenly Father, who is a Shield about you! Take the armor He provides. (Ephesians 6:13) Take up His Word. (Psalm 119:97-98, 110-111, 114) He has not left you alone to suffer or sink. Cover yourself with His love and truth. (Pray with Purpose, Live with Passion)

Lord, I praise You for being a SHIELD about me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head!

SELECT ARROW

09/21/2013

“He has also made Me a select arrow,
He has hidden Me in His quiver.”

Isaiah 49:2

Commentator David Guzik explains this description of Jesus in this way: “The Messiah prophetically proclaims that He is like a carefully made and polished arrow in the service of the LORD, ready to be used at the right time.”* And, that God did! At the right time, He sent Jesus forth. Commentator Matthew Henry adds: “furnished him with every thing necessary to fight God’s battles against the powers of darkness, to conquer Satan, and bring back God’s revolted subjects to their allegiance, by his word…”**

Lord Jesus Christ, SELECT ARROW of the Lord, I praise You for the work You have done to secure our salvation!
