Hebrews 1:3

Most of us are probably familiar with Jesus’ earthly ministry. We also know that He died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected on the third day. But what happened when He ascended into heaven? Hebrews 1:3 tells us: “…When He [Jesus] had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High” (Hebrews 1:3).

In this verse, “Majesty on High” refers to God the Father. It’s a title that conveys His glory, exaltation, and supreme authority. It signifies His position as being in the highest place, exalted above all creation. Sitting at the right hand of the Majesty on High symbolizes Jesus’ glorification and finished work. 

Jesus’ death and resurrection made a way for us to approach the throne of grace of the Majesty on High. We can come before Him in prayer with the confidence that Christ paid for our sins and that we are made righteous through His sacrifice. 

Heavenly Father, MAJESTY ON HIGH, thank You for the finished work and glorification of Christ. I am grateful that through His sacrifice, I can approach Your throne of grace with confidence.

Do you ever get bored, overwhelmed, or discouraged when you look down at all you have to do or you look around you at situations that are disheartening? However, if we turn our face toward the exalted Lord, our heart and spirit are uplifted. Let the reality that you will one day be with the exalted Lord put a smile on your face. In the meantime… 

–  Look up and be excited that your salvation is a sure thing. “The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock; And exalted be God, the rock of my salvation” (2 Samuel 22:47). 

–  Look up with confidence when the world is tumultuous. “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10). 

–  Look up when it seems you’re losing a battle. “The right hand of the LORD is exalted; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly” (Psalm 118:16). 

– Look up when you’re around haughty people. “For though the LORD is exalted, Yet He regards the lowly, But the haughty He knows from afar” (Psalm 138:6). 

– Look up with excitement when thinking about heaven. “In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple” (Isaiah 6:1).

 – Look up with confidence that Jesus is the One you should trust. “For this reason also, God highly exalted Him (Jesus), and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:9). 

EXALTED Lord, looking to You puts a smile on my face. You are exalted above the heavens, yet care about me. Help me live in a way that reflects my love for You and brings You glory.

He overcame evil and sin and the sting of sin – death. All who place their faith in Christ will live eternally in His glorious presence. Today and continually we remember with gratefulness our loved ones, friends, and the many we will never know until heaven – those who sacrificed their lives for our nation. Today we also remember with utmost gratefulness the Lord Jesus who sacrificed His life for our souls. We must never forget either.

Lord Jesus, thank You for making PURIFICATION OF OUR SINS. We love and praise You for the ultimate sacrifice of Your life to make us pure as You are pure.

Radiant! You look radiant. Do people say that when they see you? Does the glow on your face cause them to comment? If you said no, neither has anyone said that about me. Guess who that is said about, though? Jesus. Hebrews 1:3 describes Him in this way:

 “He is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature,…”  Hebrews 1:3

The word “radiance” is only used 5 times in the Bible and in each instance refers to God. Commentator Vines defines God’s “radiance” as “shining forth, of a light coming from a luminous body.” Isn’t that exciting? One day we will see Jesus and His radiance. So remember that when things around you are dark, Jesus isn’t. Nothing can extinguish His radiance. One glorious day we’ll join those who are living in God’s radiance. We’ll fall on our knees overwhelmed by what we see. That day is coming when we go to Jesus or when He returns through the clouds. Keep watching and living for Him!

Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus, our hearts are overwhelmed when we think of how we will one day stand in Your radiance.  We praise You and look forward to that day!

If someone says, “You’re exactly like your father” are those fighting words or complimentary words? In other words, did you admire your father so it’s a compliment to be likened to him? Or were there things you didn’t admire and so don’t want to be likened to him?  We would all certainly like for it to be a compliment and in Hebrews 1:3 it is in regard to Jesus being the “spitting image” of His Daddy.  The writer to the Hebrews says this about Jesus and God the Father.  “He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature,” Look at Jesus and you’re looking at our Heavenly Father. Listen to Jesus and you’re hearing the voice of God. Observe Jesus with people and you are observing the Father. Isn’t it exciting that we have a glimpse of what it will be like to be in our Father’s presence? I can’t wait! What about you?

Christ Jesus, we look at and listen to You and know that You are the exact representation of Your Father. We are seeing and hearing Him. We love You both so much!

Are you concerned with how our world seems to be getting darker? Religious persecution, disease, abuse, lawlessness, moral decline, and political conflicts contribute to anxiety and depression. In the midst of discouraging days, what can believers do? We can keep our eyes on Jesus, who Hebrews 1:3 describes as the radiance of God’s glory.  The word “radiance” is only used 5 times in the Bible and in each of those, refers to God. One sweet, glorious day, we’ll join those who are living in God’s radiance. We’ll fall on our knees overwhelmed by what our eyes see. Lord God, our hearts are overwhelmed when we read the testimonies of those who have glimpsed Your radiance.  We praise You now and forever.

“I wonder what God is like.” Have you ever had that thought? If so, you have your answer in Jesus. Look at the Son and you’ll know what the Father is like. Read Jesus’s words and you’ll hear God’s voice. Study Christ’s teachings and you’ll know what God wants of and for you.  Jesus is the “spitting image” of His Daddy” as Hebrews 1:3 explains. “He (Jesus) is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature,” Grasp onto Christ and you’ll be holding onto the God of eternity.”

Christ Jesus, we look at You and see and hear our Heavenly Father… His love, grace, wisdom, and glory. We praise You, Lord.
