Hebrews 4:15

I Need Jesus

10/10/2023

I need Jesus. Why? Eternally, Jesus is the only sinless sacrifice acceptable to God on my behalf and One through whom I’ll be raised to eternal life in heaven.  On a daily basis, I need Jesus to forgive me, cleanse me, and strengthen me to walk through my day by His Spirit. I need Jesus to guide me and prompt me if I start to veer off course.  How does Hebrews 4:15 describe Jesus?

“We do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Can I hear a hallelujah, friend? Imagine what it would be like if you were accountable to a heavenly being who didn’t sympathize with your weaknesses? But our merciful, mighty Savior does. Praise Him!  We can say,  “I sinned. I failed. I rebelled against You and Your ways. I’ve been wrong.” When we come to Jesus in honest confession and repentance, Jesus doesn’t make us feel worse and withhold forgiveness. Does that mean we should blow off our sin? No, we should think about how, when, where, and why we fell for temptation and were deceived. We should learn from it.  With every misstep, we have a God-step opportunity to learn and grow. With bowed heads and hearts, we confess our sins to our sympathetic High Priest, accept His mercy, and take seriously His words, “Go and sin no more.”  Jesus loves you and doesn’t want you wallowing in your sin. If you’ve been avoiding one on one time with Jesus, your High Priest because you feel so bad about your sin, go to Him. He loves you and is waiting.

Lord Jesus, perfect, sympathetic High Priest, we love You and thank You that we can draw near to Your throne of grace and find mercy to help in our time of need.

I Need Jesus

05/05/2021

I need Jesus and Jesus just like He is. Why? Well, first of all, I need someone who can stand before holy God on my behalf and represent me. Only Jesus can do that. On a daily basis I need Jesus to forgive me, cleanse me, and stand me up – strengthened to walk out my day by His Spirit. I need Jesus to guide and prompt me when I start to veer off course. I need His love and encouragement. I NEED JESUS. Hebrews 4:15 tells us,

Can you imagine with me what it would be like to be accountable to a heavenly being – a high priest who didn’t sympathize with us and our weaknesses?  Yikes!  But our sweet and mighty Savior does. Oh, praise Him! We can say, “I messed up! I sinned! I failed.” And He doesn’t condemn us and make us feel worse. Yes, we should grabble with our sin and think about how, when, where, why we fell for a temptation or were deceived. With every mis-step, we have a God-step opportunity. With bowed head and heart, we can confess our sin to our sympathetic High Priest, accept His mercy, hear His voice, “Go and sin no more.” We can walk more wisely into our day. Jesus loves you and doesn’t want you wallowing in your sin. If you’ve been avoiding your High Priest because you feel so bad about your sin, go to Him! He loves you and is waiting, child of God.

NOTE to Moms: (Or anyone who has a mom or knows a mom.) Hey Mom, we can sometimes (or often) feel like a failure. God knows how many times we fail and cry out to Him for forgiveness, strength, “overs,” wisdom, protection for our children, and that they will come to know Him as Savior and Lord. If you can relate, I encourage you to get my book, “The Plan A Mom in a Plan B World.” (Different book from The Plan A WOMAN in a Plan B World) I had mom friends of all ages/stages share personal stories that will encourage you and provide practical/spiritual tips. The discussion questions at the end of each chapter make it a great resource for mom groups, also. $7.49 Mother’s Day special.

We praise You, Lord Jesus, HIGH, and LIFTED UP, greatly exalted. We can’t wait to see You face to face!

Could You Use a Little Sympathy

11/01/2018

LISTEN

Are you going through a rough time? Have you thought to yourself, “Nobody understands.” Or, “No one knows what I’m going through.” It may be true that friends and family don’t know what you’re going through, but Jesus does and He sympathizes with you in your struggles and temptations. Hebrews 4:15 tells us, ”we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.” In other words, Jesus gets what it’s like to live in human skin and experience hurt and struggles. He knows what its like to battle temptation. If you’re feeling alone and would like a little sympathy, you’ve got it. Jesus sympathizes with what you’re going through, and what’s more, He’s there for you.

Son of David, we adore and praise You for willingly leaving heaven to put on flesh and live among us. Thank You for sympathizing with our weaknesses and interceding on our behalf.

“The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham:” Matthew 1:1

Praise to our SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST

11/17/2017

“For we do not have a high priest who cannot SYMPATHIZE with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

Hebrews 4:15

Have you ever felt so badly about your sin that you didn’t want to go to God in prayer? The writer to the Hebrews understood. However, he pointed out the flaw in such thinking. First, when we sin and are repentant, the place we need to be is at the throne of grace. Second, he explains that Jesus understands the power and pull of temptation. He experienced it. Third, Jesus knows our weakness. Now, the question is, will we hurry to the throne of grace and receive help in our time of need? Our SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST is waiting for us.

Lord, we praise You that You’re a SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST who invites us to draw near with confidence to your throne of grace!

Praise to the Son of David

10/27/2017

“The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham:”

Matthew 1:1

I love the details that the Bible gives to help us more fully understand and appreciate our relationship with the Lord. Matthew records the genealogy of Jesus; showing His human lineage. Jesus is the Son of Man and the Son of God. As the son of David, He relates to our temptations and what it’s like to be in human skin –  to hurt, feel pain, and weep.  As Hebrews 4:15 says, “we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.” If you feel like no one knows what you’re going through, think again. Jesus does. And, He loves you and sympathizes with you in your struggles and sufferings. You are not alone.

Son of David, we adore and praise You for willingly leaving Your heavenly home to put on flesh, live among us, and die for us. Thank You for being with us and never leaving us.

SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST

10/01/2013

“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

Hebrews 4:15

Have you ever felt so badly about your sin that you didn’t want to go to God in prayer? The writer to the Hebrews understood. However, he pointed out the flaw in such thinking. First, when we sin and are repentant, the place we need to be is at the throne of grace. Second, he reminds us that what we will find there is mercy, not wrath. In case we’re still hesitant, he explains that Jesus understands the power and pull of temptation. He experienced it. Now, the question is, will we hurry to the throne of grace and receive help in our time of need? Our Sympathetic High Priest awaits us.

Lord, I praise You that You are a SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST who invites me to draw near with confidence to your throne of grace!
