Do We Have Enough Holy Reverence?

01/15/2024

“Hey, buddy.” We’re often quite chummy with people, calling them “buddy.” Some parents even call their children, “buddy.” In reference to Jesus, there are people who quote Matthew 11:19, that Jesus was a friend (buddy?) of sinners. But let’s not forget that Jesus is the gloriously exalted LORD who is seated at the right hand of God. Prayerfully picture the scene recorded in Daniel 7:9-10.

“I kept looking until thrones were set up, and the Ancient of Days took His seat; His vesture was like white snow and the hair of His head like pure wool. His throne was ablaze with flames, its wheels were a burning fire. A river of fire was flowing and coming out from before Him; Thousands upon thousands were attending Him, And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him; The court sat, and the books were opened and were presented before Him.”

The Son of Man, Jesus, is not our “buddy.” He is our Lord seated at the right hand of the Ancient of Days.

ANCIENT of DAYS, glorious One, and Son of God, forgive us when we fail to show You holy reverence. Help us honor You today and every day.

Unclean Lips and Lives

I don’t think there’s any way we can get our minds around what the holiness of the LORD is like. I don’t think we have the slightest idea of the magnitude of heaven’s glory. Isaiah attempted to describe heaven.

“In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, ….

And one called out to another and said ‘HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.’ And the foundations of the thresholds trembled…”Isaiah 6:1-4a.

What was Isaiah’s response?

“Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips – And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts,” Isaiah 6:5.

Isaiah’s response to seeing the LORD was a profound awareness that he was unclean. Were it not for JESUS bearing our sins on the cross, it would not be possible for us to live in the HOLY, HOLY, HOLY LORD’S presence, which is why we praise HIM today and every day.

We praise You, HOLY, HOLY, HOLY Lord!

Do We Have Enough Holy Reverence

“Hey, Buddy.” We’re often quite chummy with people, even if while social distancing or on the phone. Some parents even call their children, “buddy.” We love to quote Matthew 11:19 that Jesus was a “friend of sinners.” But let’s not forget that the “friend of sinners” is gloriously exalted and seated at the right hand of God. Prayerfully visualize Daniel 7:9-10.

I kept looking
Until thrones were set up,
And the Ancient of Days took His seat;
His vesture was like white snow
And the hair of His head like pure wool.
His throne was ablaze with flames,
Its wheels were a burning fire.
A river of fire was flowing
And coming out from before Him;
Thousands upon thousands were attending Him,
And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him;
The court sat,
And the books were opened.
And were presented before Him.”

The Son of Man may be our friend and God our Abba Father, but based on Scripture, a casual “buddy” reverence isn’t how I visualize our relationship with God. Our Lord is the all powerful, holy, Ancient of Days. Are we daily worshipping Him? Are we sharing Him with others? Are we ready for His return?

ANCIENT of DAYS, glorious One, forgive us when we don’t show You holy reverence. Help us live more for You and less for ourselves. Use us to witness to others about Your saving grace.

Prayers of My Heart character trait to record: Ancient of Days.

Hey Buddy, Do We Have Enough Holy Fear

01/22/2019

LISTEN

“Hey Buddy.” We’ve become quite chummy these days. Some parents even call their children, “buddy.” “Hey, buddy, get in the car.” We love to quote Matthew 11:19 that Jesus was a “friend of sinners.” But, let’s not forget that the Son of Man is now gloriously exalted and seated with His Father. The Son of Man may be our friend and God our Abba Father, but “buddy” isn’t how I visualize God based on Scripture. Do we have enough of a holy reverent fear of the Ancient of Days? Are we mindfully sharing our hope of heaven with those who may not know the path out of the fire and into His glorious presence?  If you could use a refresher on how to share Jesus with gentle boldness, get a copy of Discovering His Passion for a donation of any amount. Praise the Holy, Holy, Holy Lord of Hosts

05/10/2018

“In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, …. And one called out to another and said ‘Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.’ And the foundations of the thresholds trembled…” (Isaiah 6:1-4a).

I don’t think there’s any way we can get our minds around what the holiness of the Lord is like. I don’t think we have the slightest idea of what the glory of heaven is like. Those who glimpsed the Lord and heaven were dramatically changed. Their response? They gave their lives wholeheartedly to God and served Him unreservedly.  Isaiah’s reaction? “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips – And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts” (Isaiah 6:5). All Isaiah could think in response to seeing the Lord was that he was unclean.

Were it not for Jesus bearing our sins on the cross, we couldn’t live eternally in the Holy, Holy, Holy Lord’s presence; which is why we praise Him today and every day!

We praise You, HOLY, HOLY, HOLY Lord!
