Isaiah 40:28

When You Question God’s Goodness

05/18/2024

Have you questioned God’s goodness when He didn’t answer your prayers, or didn’t answer in the timing you wanted? If so, it helps to meditate on Isaiah 40:28 which reminds us of how much higher God’s ways are than ours. “The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable.”

What does that verse have to do with God not answering our prayers, or not in the way we want?

Isaiah points out that God’s understanding in inscrutable. The New International Version of the Bible states, “His understanding no one can fathom.” The New King James Bible states, “His understanding is unsearchable.”

In other words, when we pray and God doesn’t answer in the way we want or the timing we want, it has nothing to do with God’s goodness. Rather, it’s important to remember that God’s understanding of what we’ve prayed about is beyond our understanding, but not God’s. His understanding is “inscrutable;” limitless.

Trust and faith are essential not only in our profession of faith but also our daily walk and prayer life. We can trust God, whose understanding is inscrutable, beyond what we can understand. Will you trust Him today, knowing He is good?

Lord, Your understanding is INSCRUTABLE, beyond what we can fathom. Help us look to you in faith, trusting in Your goodness.

A Good Reason to Follow the Owner’s Manual

02/27/2024

Have you ever questioned the “why” behind God’s commands? If so, it helps to remember that God created us as Genesis 1:27 reminds us. “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Our creator knows what is best for us and what hurts us. Jesus’ commands such as those found in Matthew 6:34 to not worry and in Ephesians 4:31-32 to forgive and to put bitterness away from us are examples of our Creator’s instructions that serve our best interests. They help us have more peace, contentment, and joy.

What can happen if we, the creation, ignore our Creator’s ways? Romans 1:24-25 warns us. “God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.”

God created us. His Word is our instruction manual; far more important than a car or appliance manual. If we want our life and relationship with Him and others to run smoothly, we’re wise to read and follow His instructions.

How well are we following our Creator’s instructions?

Heavenly Father, CREATOR, forgive us for too often ignoring Your instructions. Awaken us to the importance of reading and following Your holy teachings.

Here’s a Good Reason to Follow the Owner’s Manual

02/24/2022

Have you ever wondered about the “why” behind God’s commands? If so, it helps to realize that since He created us, as Isaiah 40:28 explains, He knows what is beneficial to us and what hurts us. For instance, when the Scriptures were written, they didn’t have the research on the harmful effects of worry and stress. So, Jesus simply stated in Matthew 6:34, “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” They didn’t have the research on the destructive nature of bitterness so God simply commanded us in Ephesians 4:31-32 to forgive and put bitterness away from us. In other words, God’s commands are in our best interest. They help us go through life with more peace, contentment, and joy. Just as a car owner is wise to read and follow the manual that came with their car, so we’re wise to read and follow the manual our Lord has given us. How well are we doing that? Where might we need to go back and read the Owner’s Manual so our life runs according to our Maker?

Heavenly Father, Lord and CREATOR, forgive us for too often ignoring the commands in Your Word. Draw us to Your Holy instructions to obey Your teachings.

When You Question God’s Goodness

Have you ever thought, “Why did You let this happen, God?” Or, perhaps you’ve wondered why God hasn’t answered your prayers? In Isaiah 40:28 we’re told, “The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable.”  What does that have to do with God not answering our prayers, or seeming to have not answered our prayers?  The NIV version explains, “His understanding no one can fathom.” The New King James states,  “His understanding is unsearchable.” In other words, when we pray and God doesn’t answer in the way or timing we want, it helps if we remember that His understanding of us, our situation, and others involved is better than our understanding. Trust and faith are essential elements of not only our profession of faith but also our daily walk. We can trust God, whose understanding is inscrutable and unfathomable. Will we?

Lord, Your understanding is inscrutable, far beyond what we can fathom.  Help us look to you in faith, trusting in Your proven goodness.

His understanding is INSCRUTABLE.”  What does that have to do with God not appearing to answer our prayers? The word “INSCRUTABLE” comes from two Hebrew words that describe God’s understanding. The New International Version of the Bible uses the word “fathom.” “His understanding no one can fathom.” The New King James Version states it: “His understanding is unsearchable.” In other words, when we pray and don’t receive the answer from God that we want, or not in the timing we want, it helps to remember that His understanding of our situation is better than our understanding. His understanding of us and those involved is better than our understanding. Trust and faith are essential elements of not only our profession of faith; but also of our daily walk. We can trust our God, whose understanding is INSCRUTABLE. Will we?

Praise to Our CREATOR

02/24/2018

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable.”

Isaiah 40:28

God’s patience amazes me. HE made us. Yet, we often decide independently of Him how to live. Then, we don’t understand why things go wrong in our lives.

“Really?” our CREATOR must want to say to us.

I’ve been studying the scientific reasons for many our Creator’s commands. At the time the Scriptures were written, there were no brain scans or sophisticated equipment by which God could explain the reasons for His commands. He simply said don’t or do. For instance, Jesus tell us to not be anxious. Rather, we are to pray. God tells us to forgive instead of being bitter. Today, through developing research, we better understand the magnificent way God created us and the “why’s” behind many of His commands. We are wise to read our Creator’s manual, the Bible, and live by it.

Heavenly Father, Lord and CREATOR, forgive us when we ignore Your commands. Draw us to Your Holy Presence and to surrender to Your will.
