Matthew 6:34

A Good Reason to Follow the Owner’s Manual

02/27/2024

Have you ever questioned the “why” behind God’s commands? If so, it helps to remember that God created us as Genesis 1:27 reminds us. “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Our creator knows what is best for us and what hurts us. Jesus’ commands such as those found in Matthew 6:34 to not worry and in Ephesians 4:31-32 to forgive and to put bitterness away from us are examples of our Creator’s instructions that serve our best interests. They help us have more peace, contentment, and joy.

What can happen if we, the creation, ignore our Creator’s ways? Romans 1:24-25 warns us. “God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.”

God created us. His Word is our instruction manual; far more important than a car or appliance manual. If we want our life and relationship with Him and others to run smoothly, we’re wise to read and follow His instructions.

How well are we following our Creator’s instructions?

Heavenly Father, CREATOR, forgive us for too often ignoring Your instructions. Awaken us to the importance of reading and following Your holy teachings.

Here’s a Good Reason to Follow the Owner’s Manual

02/24/2022

Have you ever wondered about the “why” behind God’s commands? If so, it helps to realize that since He created us, as Isaiah 40:28 explains, He knows what is beneficial to us and what hurts us. For instance, when the Scriptures were written, they didn’t have the research on the harmful effects of worry and stress. So, Jesus simply stated in Matthew 6:34, “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” They didn’t have the research on the destructive nature of bitterness so God simply commanded us in Ephesians 4:31-32 to forgive and put bitterness away from us. In other words, God’s commands are in our best interest. They help us go through life with more peace, contentment, and joy. Just as a car owner is wise to read and follow the manual that came with their car, so we’re wise to read and follow the manual our Lord has given us. How well are we doing that? Where might we need to go back and read the Owner’s Manual so our life runs according to our Maker?

Heavenly Father, Lord and CREATOR, forgive us for too often ignoring the commands in Your Word. Draw us to Your Holy instructions to obey Your teachings.

Groundhog Spirit

07/28/2021

The other night my husband and I watched a movie where a man kept waking up the same day. Perhaps you’ve seen a similar “groundhog day” movie. There are several, but this one impressed me because of the actor’s quick-moving lines and scenes. When it ended, I mentioned to Keith, “I don’t know how he kept up with all his lines.” He wisely replied, “I’m sure they only filmed one scene at a time.” “Of course! I was thinking of it being filmed in one setting.” Thinking about it, I realized how much better my days are if I take them one scene and day at a time which is what Jesus tells us to do in Matthew 6:34. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself.” If you’d like to start walking in peace one day at a time rather than have groundhog days of anxiety, get a copy of my study, “Grace and Peace.”
