Wisdom

Follow the Lord’s Wise Ways

11/08/2023

Are you in the midst of making a decision?  Do you wonder what the best course of action is regarding work, parenting, a relationship, or finances? If ever there was a time to follow God’s wise ways in these dark days,  it’s now. We need wisdom for daily decisions. Wisdom for how to proceed when the unexpected pops up. Proverbs 2:6 reminds us that the Lord is the source and provider of wisdom.  “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” It is a blessing that we can go to our Heavenly Father, study His ways, pray, and walk in the light of His wisdom. Are we?

Wise Heavenly Father, we praise You for allowing us to come to You. Thank You for providing us with wisdom for daily life. Continually stir our hearts and minds to walk in the light of Your teachings. We love You.

“How much money do you make?” In our materialistic society, people often place value on the almighty dollar instead of the Almighty Lord. But  Isaiah 33:6 addresses what we should value: “Jesus being a wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge.” Isaiah reminds us that the Lord is the greatest treasure.  Jesus echoes Isaiah’s understanding of what true wealth is. In Matthew 6:19-21 He says,

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Christ’s command should cause us to stop and ponder. Are we storing up treasures on earth or are we storing up treasures in heaven? To the point – on what is our heart most focused – things of the earth or things of heaven?

Lord, You are a WEALTH of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. Stir our hearts to seek the treasures that count for eternity rather than the fleeting things of earth.

“And He will be the stability of your times,
A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge;
The fear of the Lord is his treasure.”  Isaiah 33:6

Are You Sort of Scared

08/03/2022

Does the news ever shock or alarm you?  It increasingly shocks me.  “I can’t believe this is happening in our nation,” I’ve said to Keith increasingly through the years. The disregard for other’s lives, blatant deception, and what sometimes seems irrational decisions is concerning. What can we do in the midst of rising tensions?  We must do our part to cover relationships in prayer. We must take the high road of Christ’s example. We must pray for our leaders and pray for our enemies rather than speak or plan evil against them. We must believe that God’s is sovereign. So, no, I’m not going to live in fear or anger. I’m going to take my cues from a great example – Daniel. We find his story in Daniel 2. King Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream and demanded that it be interpreted or he would kill all the wise men. Daniel’s name was on the list of those to be executed. However when Daniel learned of the situation, he didn’t go into hiding. Rather, he gathered his friends and prayed. Daniel 2:18 says they requested, “compassion from the God of heavens” concerning the interpretation of the King’s dream. That night, God revealed the interpretation to Daniel. In Daniel 2:20, he praises the LORD. “Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him.” He continues in verse 23, “To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, For You have given me wisdom and power; Even now You have made known to me what we requested of You.”  Do you believe God is powerful and that He can give you wisdom and power to know what to do in these troubling days? He can.

Heavenly Father, thank You for making Yourself available to us. Thank You that Your eyes are on our nation. Thank You that in the midst of evil days, You are holy and exalted and always there for us. We look to You for wisdom and power. Guide our thoughts and steps so we are instruments of peace.

Praise to the God of all WISDOM

11/24/2021

Are you in the midst of making a decision?  Do you wonder what the best course of action is regarding work, parenting, a relationship, or finances?

If ever there was a time to follow the path of wisdom, it’s now.

Wisdom for the road before us. Wisdom for how to proceed.

Proverbs remind us that the Lord is the source and provider of wisdom.

How blessed we are to be able to go to our Heavenly Father, read His ways, pray, and receive His wisdom. When we don’t know which path to follow, we can follow our hearts to His heart.

GOD OF WISDOM, we praise You that we can come to You for heavenly wisdom. Thank You for providing it when we seek You.

“For the Lord gives WISDOM; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6

Are You Sort of Scared

01/15/2021

Is the news freaking you out?  I’m not a worrier and I’m not easily alarmed. But when I heard that the National Guard was sending 20,000 troops to Washington D.C. to defend the Capitol due to threats of violence, I felt a strange sense of fear rising in me. Fear for our nation. Fear that people might do something that would cause the loss of life. I immediately began praying. A sense of urgency swelled in me that each of us must do our part to encourage calmness in the midst or rising emotions. We must do our part to bathe relationships in prayer. We must take the high road that follows Christ’s example of praying for our enemies rather than drawing a sword. We must believe that God’s got this. So, no, I’m not going to live in fear. I’m going to take my cues from a great Biblical example – Daniel. We find his story in Daniel 2. “How much money do you make?” In our materialistic society, people often place value on the almighty dollar instead of the Almighty Lord. But,  Isaiah 33:6 speaks to what we should value: “Jesus being a wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge.” He reminds us that a healthy fear of the Lord is the greatest treasure.  Jesus echos Isaiah’s understanding of what true wealth is in Matthew 6:19-21 when He says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Christ’s command causes us to stop and ponder. According to Jesus, we are to consider where are we storing up treasures – on earth or heaven. In other words, where is our heart most focused – on the earth or heaven?

Lord, You are a WEALTH of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. Set our hearts on treasures that count for eternity.

“And He will be the stability of your times,

Are You Poor or Wealthy

10/30/2019

Many times our search for wealth comes up short. Have you found that to be true? The all powerful dollar is held before us as the “end all” we should seek, but Jesus tells us the opposite; that we’re to lay up treasure in heaven. The wealth that should be our goal is best summed up in Isaiah 33:6.  Listen to how Isaiah describes the Lord in terms of wealth. “And He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is his treasure.” So the question is, are you poor or wealthy? God’s estimation is that if you have Him, you have a wealth of salvation and a wealth of wisdom and knowledge. Wouldn’t it be a shame if we lived like paupers when we have great treasure in the Lord?

Lord, You are a WEALTH of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. Thank You for all we have in You!
