Do you ever find that you want to grow and serve Christ, but the world drags you down? If so, I’m right there with you. It helps me to remember Christ’s words that at this moment in time, Satan is the ruler of the world and that we have tribulation (pressure) in the world. But, here’s the good news: Christ has overcome the world. As citizens of both earth and heaven, we’re told to set our minds on the things above. How do we do that? The following are some of my “go to” favorites. Let me know yours.
- Focus on the Word. (see below)
- Armor up.
- Memorize Scripture.
- Listen to Christian music. (see below)
- Read and re-read spiritual growth books. (see below)
- Listen to podcasts. (see below)
I pray this to my Heavenly Father early in the mornings.
Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for I trust in You. Teach me the way in which I should walk, for to You I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8
I know that in my own strength there’s no way to accomplish what God has placed in my hands. So I turn Hebrews 13:20-21 into a prayer, also. Equip “me,” to do “Your” will, working in “me” that which is pleasing in “Your” sight.
Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the Sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21
I started to list my favorite songs, but I have too many! So, instead, I’m giving you the link to K-love. Music is powerful, so I hope you’ll make it a habit to direct your mind to truth, hope, and love that is expressed as we sing.
Hymns are important to me, too. Are they to you? I took a couple of years of piano when I was in elementary school. A few months ago, I pulled the hymnal from the piano bench and started playing again. What am I playing?
- What a Friend We Have in Jesus
- Amazing Grace
- The Old Rugged Cross
There’s great theology in hymns. Make Christian music a part of your day!
Rather than let our minds aimlessly wander or tune into the same stations every day, we can grow and be spiritually encouraged by clicking on podcasts. I especially like to listen when I’m in the car. Select a podcast to listen to and hit the play button before you start driving, cooking, cleaning, or doing laundry.
I’m adding a variety of topics and lengths of podcasts over the next weeks, so please stop by and listen.
