365 Days of Praise

When God says something one time, we need to pay attention. When He speaks it twice in the same breath, we need to sit up and take notice. God voices two times that He gets it that there are times when we don’t know how or what to pray. But, we’re not to worry. The Holy Spirit does an internal investigation of our hearts. Then, He intercedes on our behalf. He speaks to God for us. How cool is that? 

Holy One, What a joy to know that You INTERCEDE for me when I’m weak and don’t know what to pray. Thank You! I praise You! Please pass that along to the FATHER.

The word “inscrutable” comes from two Hebrew words that describe God’s understanding. The New International Version of the Bible uses the word fathom in this verse: “His understanding no one can fathom.” The New King James Version says it this way, “His understanding is unsearchable.” We get the point. When we look to God, we’re praying to One who understands us better than we understand ourselves. He understands our situations better than we do. And, we’ll never understand everything about God. Trust and faith are important elements of our prayers and praise.  

Lord, You are INSCRUTABLE. Your understanding no one can fathom. I look to You in praise and trust!

Have you ever felt guilty? Isn’t it a horrible feeling? What do you do with guilt? You can’t hide it, shake it, or even bury it. It clings to you like a cat. Nails dug in, it’s determined to not let you go. There is one person who never experienced guilt. Until He hung on the cross and took our guilt upon Himself, Jesus was innocent. Can you imagine going from a state of holy innocent to one of overwhelming sin and shame? Our Lord did that. He loves us so. 

My wonderful, Lord, You, the INNOCENT one, took my shame and guilt so that I might be declared innocent. Thank You! Thank You!

God is incorruptible. That means He is immortal. Christ’s body did not undergo decay in the tomb. Though His body was beaten, struck, pierced, nailed to a cross, and Christ gave up His Spirit, He didn’t stay dead. His Father is incorruptible and immortal. He is incorruptible and immortal. What should be our response? Wonder. Awe. Worship. 

Lord God, You are INCORRUPTIBLE. May I be careful to place You above everything.

Can you imagine receiving a phone call and being told that a relative you barely knew had passed away and left you all his money? “That’s nice of Uncle Fred,” you might say, thinking to the last time you’d seen him and his rather common clothing and car. But then, the executor of the estate explains that Uncle Fred was wealthy. “Congratulations! You’re a billionaire!” Psalm 16:5 is such a comment to the Christian. “Congratulations! You’re inheriting Christ, His home, heaven.” Does that cause you to smile?

Lord, You are my INHERITANCE; what more could I want. I love You and praise You!

Have you ever let something spoil in the refrigerator? You meant to eat it, but didn’t. You found those left-overs crammed behind the milk and orange juice, opened the lid, and whew! It stunk. It had perished. Ruined. Was no good – for you or anyone. Not so with God and His Word. They are imperishable! They are always good. God’s seed – Christ – has been planted in us. He is living in us. He won’t die. We won’t die. Our spirits are born through the living and enduring word of God. Hallelujah! Celebrate! 

Lord, I celebrate YOU! You are IMPERISHABLE. Your word is enduring. I have been born of Your imperishable seed. Thank You! I praise You!

“What does your husband do?” Many women are asked that question after the prior, “Are you married?” For a single woman who longs to be married, the questions can be exasperating. For a woman whose husband works in a position she doesn’t respect, such questions can make her feel uncomfortable. But how about if someone asked about your husband and you replied, “He’s the God of all the earth, the Lord of HOSTS. Yep, that’s my husband.” Then you could quickly reply, “And what does your husband do?” 🙂 God CHOSE to describe Himself as Husband, married to you for eternity. That’s praiseworthy!  

Lord, my HUSBAND, maker, Lord of hosts, Redeemer, Holy One of Israel, God of all the earth, I love You and praise You for Your tender care of me for eternity!

Isaiah 49:5

How much honor do you have for Jesus? Here’s a test to help us answer that question. Do we ever use Jesus’ name in vain? Does He ever prompt us to do something and we don’t do it? Have we ever read one of Jesus’s teachings, such as to forgive and we ignore Him? How often do we bring Jesus into our decisions? Honor encircles Christ’s throne room.  

Lord Jesus, You are HONORED in the sight of Your Father. I pray my life brings You the honor You deserve.

Matthew 11:29

Do you ever feel kind of cocky about yourself? Do you tend to look down on others? Are you critical of those around you? Humility is a great trait and one we see evidenced in our Lord.  Jesus was humble. It wasn’t a false humility. He explained that His humility flowed from His heart. In other words, from the essence of who He was. That’s what we need. Not an attempt at humility, but rather to truly regard others as more important than ourselves. Jesus said we are to learn from Him. If we’re not humble, isn’t it time we begin learning from Him?

Lord, You who have every right to be prideful and look down on us, instead, chose to serve us and even humble yourself to the point of death. We praise You, most HUMBLE, gracious Lord Jesus!

Psalm 18:2

Why is our Lord described as the horn of salvation? Scholar Herbert Lockyer explains: “the figure of the Horn is taken from those animals whose strength is in their horns. Because the horn was once the instrument of the oxen’s strength, it became the symbol of power. And our God and Savior came as a HORN, or mighty instrument of salvation. In addition, when horns were fixed to an altar they became projections to which sacrifices were bound and to which those who needed protection could cling. If Jesus is your Horn of Salvation then all strength is His to keep you saved and safe. He is not like the Grecian king described as ‘the great horn that was broken’ (Daniel 8:8, 21, 22). Nothing or no one can break our indestructible Horn.” 

HORN OF SALVATION, I praise You, my strength and salvation today and for eternity.
