Heavenly Consolation

Have you ever waited a long time before you received what had been promised? That was the case with the nation of Israel who waited for the prophesied Jesus. Then, one day, Mary and Joseph walked into the temple to present the infant Jesus. Imagine the joy of a man named Simeon who, full of the Holy Spirit, recognized Jesus as the Messiah.

Luke 2:25 records the account. “There was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.”

“Consolation of Israel.” Why would that be a reference to the long awaited Messiah?

The Rabbis spoke of the coming Messiah as the “consoler” who would bring comfort to Israel. Can you imagine the joy that filled Simeon’s heart when he saw the baby Jesus?

Jesus is the Consolation of Israel, but He is also the consolation of all who look to Him. If you are hurting, filled with angst, lonely, or overwhelmed, look to Jesus. He is with you, for you, loves you, and present to console you.

Lord Jesus Christ, CONSOLATION of ISRAEL and consolation of all who call on You, we praise and worship You.
