TRUE LIGHT
“There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.”
John 1:9
Are you excited about all the ways our Lord is described? Every day when I select a description to share with you, I have a renewed sense of awe. Often the ways our Lord is described provide a contrast to that which is in the world. Such is the case today. There are many “lights.” Many claim to be “enlightened” by powers apart from Jesus Christ. Many seek self-enlightenment. But once again, God speaks loudly through His scribes. There is one TRUE LIGHT and it is JESUS CHRIST. HE enlightens us when we turn to Him and open our hearts to His saving grace.
Lord Jesus, You are the TRUE LIGHT who enlightens every man. I worship and adore You.

TRIUMPHANT
“When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.”
Colossians 2:15
Do you ever feel like things are out of control? Does it seem like rulers and authorities make decisions over which you have no power or your voice is ignored? Christ can relate. He, the Son of God, was imprisoned and a thief released. He was pronounced “not guilty” then crucified. But that wasn’t the end of the story. Christ triumphed over the grave and those in authority. He made a public display of them and disarmed them. And, He is on the THRONE.
Lord, You are TRIUMPHANT! I celebrate Your victory and praise and worship You.

NEAL’S ASPARAGUS posted by Lauren Spalding

This is my Mom’s go-to side! I have seen her cook this a lot and she loves it as does everyone she cooks it for. It is simple, healthy, delicious and a very pretty presentation. Another nice thing about it is it goes well with any type of meat: fish, steak, pork or chicken. One thing my Mom has taught me is to cook simple things that look nice! This side is one to impress and so healthy and good!
NEAL’S ASPARAGUS p.347
bunch of fresh asparagus
bell peppers in red, orange and yellow
purple onion, sliced into rings
olive oil
salt and pepper to taste.
Rinse asparagus and snap tough ends off each stalk. In a large glass baking dish, line up stalks in rows like soldiers. Place strips of red, eyllow or orange bell peppers in between each asparagus soldier. Arrange purple onion rings over soldiers and pepper strips. Drizzle olive oil over all; then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake uncovered at 400 degrees for 8 minutes until tender-crisp.
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live…’ ” John 11:25
Table Blessing

It is how You speak to us each day.

THE BEST BREAKFAST CASSEROLE posted by Lauren Spalding
The name is true! It is the best breakfast casserole! There are so many amazing recipes in this cookbook, and I am not being biased. I get asked a lot how to make things out of this cookbook and this is one of them. I recently took this to my MOPs meeting at FBC Boerne and someone asked me how I made it. It is SO good and is somthing I often take to people if I am making them a meal. It is easy and I know there will be leftovers for them to enjoy. Do read ahead! All the prep is done the night before so all you have to do the next day is pop it in the oven. I didn’t realize that the first time I made it. It was good, but is so much better if prepared correctly! (Isn’t that the case with most food, though?!)
THE BEST BREAKFAST CASSEROLE p. 107
4 cups herb or plain croutons (1 pkg)
2 cups grated cheese
3 cups whole milk
1 tsp salt
1 TBS prepared mustard
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 tsp pepper
1 lb sausage, browned and drained (or may use bacon)
Worcestershire and Tabasco sauce to taste
mushrooms, optional
Put croutons and cheese in bottom of greased casserole dish. Mix other ingredients together and pour over croutons. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes or until set.
Note: This is a great recipe to make Christmas Eve and have Christmas morning.
*I will make an additional note that I personally use cheeses such as American or Cheddar and I use regular milk, not whole milk.
Psalm 139:14
“I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.”
Table Blessing
God, You are faithful and true.
Thank you for this food.
We know all good things come from you.

TRUE GOD
“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
John 17:3
Our nation is plagued with gods. We focus our time, energy, and money around sport gods, education gods, work gods, money gods, pleasure gods. In effect, we worship them when they become the driving force in our lives and occupy our thoughts. However, if we want eternal life, Jesus makes it clear that the way is through the knowledge of the only true God. He is to be the object of our love and the driving passion that occupies our thoughts, energy, and resources. Yes, there are many little gods. There is only one TRUE GOD and Jesus Christ.
Lord, there are many little gods, but You are the only TRUE GOD! I praise and worship You.

TOWER of STRENGTH and REFUGE
“For You have been a refuge for me,
A tower of strength against the enemy.”
Psalm 61:3
May 20 the nation cringed in horror when an EF4 tornado carved a 20-mile path through Newcastle, Moore and South Oklahoma City. At least 51 people including 20 children were killed. The devastation and pain indescribable. To whom are family and friends turning? The Lord. Why? He is a refuge. He is a tower of strength. He alone can minister to the deep hurt these mamas and daddies, friends and neighbors are experiencing. And so we pray for Moore.
Lord, we praise You who are a TOWER of STRENGTH and REFUGE. When we don’t know how we can get through the next minute, when our heart is aching to the point of death, when there is no one who can console us, when there is no shelter from despair, You are there. We find refuge and strength in You.

TRUST of ALL the ENDS Of the EARTH and of the FARTHEST SEA
“By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea;”
Psalm 65:5
God is not the God of only a certain people group, class, or church denomination. Rather, David points out that God is the One to whom ALL people can come (verse 2), and that God hears their prayers. Do you live in a remote part of the world, but are receiving this? Are you in rehab and looking for One you can trust? Are you in a country where you have to have these words translated, but are seeking a God who can save you? Are you a missionary living with those who speak a different language? How awesome it is to know that the God of our salvation, who answers in righteousness is the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea.
Lord, we worship You, who are the TRUST of ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH and of the FARTHEST SEA.

TREASURE
“God… is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. For we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;”
2 Corinthians 4:6-7
When you were little, did you play a game where you went on a treasure hunt? Today, do you put your treasured valuables or documents in a safe? The Bible tells us that we (Christians) are as a safe. Although we are earthen, He trusts us with a treasure. What is the treasure? It’s God. It’s the knowledge of Him shining in our hearts. It’s His greatness of power. With humble reverence and gratefulness beyond measure, we ought to bow and worship God for this great gift of Himself and glory within us.
Lord, YOU are the TREASURE that men seek. And I have You in my heart.

TENDER
“To give to His people the knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God…”
Luke 1:78
The word “tender” jumped out at me. I remember when it happened. I was reading Zacharias prayer of praise for God giving him a son. As words of praise flowed from his mouth, Zacharias thanked God for His tender mercies. Not harsh. Not overbearing. Not cruel. No, none of those words describe our Lord. Instead, at the core of who God is, at the seat of God’s heart is tenderness. Oh, that we might all praise our wonderful God!
Lord, I praise and worship You! You, who show TENDER mercy to me!

TEACHER
“If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”
John 13:14
The scene doesn’t seem to make sense at first glance: Lord and Teacher. Stinky feet. Dirty bowl of water. Messy. Jesus on His knees washing feet. However, the moment had to do with more than cleansing feet. It was about humility and forgiveness. Our Lord and Teacher physically illustrated what He would spiritually do for us. It would be messy (a bloody mess), but He would cleanse us by washing away our sins. However, He went further. Our Lord and Teacher taught us that as He had done, we are to do. We are to take the bowl and water and towel, and though there has been dirt, we are to wash away the grudge we see when we look at another person rather than lord over them our self perceived “perfection.” Jesus is our Lord and Teacher. Are we being His faithful student?
Jesus, Thank You for washing away my sin. I praise You, LORD and TEACHER.
