SONG
“The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will extol Him.”
Exodus 15:2
In the Hebrew language the word “song” can mean “music” or “melody.” I love that Moses says in effect, “The Lord is my melody. He’s the music to which I walk through my day.” What’s the music to which you walk? Is it a funeral procession? Is it a worldly beat or a forlorn love song of days gone by? Is it anger filled rap music? I want to join Moses and say, “The Lord is my strength and SONG.”
Heavenly Father, Thank You for being the SONG to which I can walk through my day. I love You!

SON of GOD
“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this: ‘I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first. But I have this against you, that you tolerate…’”
Revelation 2:18-20a
We will one day see the SON of GOD! Eyes like a flame of fire. Feet like burnished bronze. Revelation 1:16 describes His face as “the sun shining in its strength.” Revelation 2:12 as having a sharp two-edged sword. We have seen God described as a Shepherd and Slow to Anger. But we must never forget that we are accountable to Him for our deeds, love, faith, service, perseverance, and what we tolerate that is unacceptable to Him.
Lord Jesus, SON of GOD, eyes like a flame of fire, feet like burnished bronze, sharp two-edged sword, You are worthy to be praised and obeyed.

SLOW to ANGER
“The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.”
Psalm 145:8
What if the later half of Psalm 145:8 read the opposite: The Lord is great in anger and slow in lovingkindness? Wouldn’t that be horrible? But that’s not what it says. Instead, it explains to us that God is slow to anger; not fast. I’m so thankful. Aren’t you?
Lord, I praise You for being SLOW to ANGER. You are a gracious and merciful God. I love You and thank You!

SHEPHERD
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”
Psalm 23:1
This is probably one of the most familiar ways in which we know God. Shepherd. We say the 23rd Psalm at weddings and funerals and in between. We love this psalm because it comforts us to know that God is our shepherd. He’s leading us. He’s protecting us. He’ll take us through life, death, and home to heaven. For what better reason could we praise Him?
Lord God, You are my SHEPHERD and I praise You!

SERVANT
“Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen; My beloved in whom My soul is well pleased…”
Matthew 12:18
God describes Jesus as His servant. Whom else did Jesus serve besides His Father? He served you. He served me. He washed the disciples’ feet and explained, “I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things you are blessed if you do them,” John 13:15-17.
Lord Jesus, I praise You for willingly serving Your Father’s purposes. Thank You for taking the role of a SERVANT as an example to me.

SHELTER
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Psalm 91:1
God is a shelter. From what does He shelter us? Snares. Things that trip us up. Fear. Enemies. Evil. How does He shelter us? He calls us to Himself. Just as we might call a child in from a hailstorm, God calls to us, “Come to Me.” His Word shelters us from wayward thinking. His truths keep us on the safe path. His righteousness shelters us from falling for temptation. God is a shelter to the one who stays close to Him.
Lord God, thank You for being a SHELTER in the storms and temptations of life. I praise You!

SEPARATED from SINNERS
“it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens;”
Hebrews 7:26
Are you amazed at the various ways Christ is described? Jesus is our friend. He loves us. He offered His life so that we might live. Yet, He’s separated from sinners. What does that mean? It means you and I needed a holy One to go before God and intercede for us. Jesus is without sin. He can do that. He did that!
Lord, I praise You. You are SEPARATED from SINNERS and have interceded for me so that I might stand before holy God.

SELF CONTROL
“the fruit of the Spirit is …self-control;”
Galatians 5:22-23
SELF-CONTROL is not a highly discussed in relation to God. Yet, think about it. If God didn’t have self-control, He probably would have wiped us off the face of the earth. If self-control was not one of Christ’s attributes, He would have called down legions of angels to secure His freedom in the Garden of Gethsemane. He would have turned the lash on those lashing Him. But our God is a God of self-control. And because He has invested His life in us in the form of the Holy Spirit, He has given us the opportunity to exercise self-control.
Lord, Thank You for not only being a God of SELF-CONTROL, but for also giving us Your Spirit by which we can exercise self-control. You are an awesome God!

SEES OUR TEARS
“Go and say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears;”
Isaiah 38:5
One of the many things that amazes me in the Bible is that God sees and addresses individuals. I suppose because God is enthroned in heaven, I sometimes forget that His eye is also on you and me. Are you crying? Are you sad? Are you grieved beyond the point of crying? God sees your tears. He hears your prayers.
Lord God, You who are enthroned on high are also compassionate toward us. You SEE OUR TEARS. You hear our prayers. Thank You for Your compassion.

SEEKER of the LOST
“The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10
The first book/Bible study I was asked to write was Discovering His Passion. It’s still one of my favorites. The premise of the book? Luke 19:10. Jesus explained Himself and why he went all over the country doing what He did. He had COME to earth to seek and to save people. Forget hunting for Easter eggs. Stop seeking the best for yourself. Join Jesus in His work. Seek those who don’t have a personal relationship with God. That was Jesus’s passion. I praise Him that He sought me out. I praise Him that He sought you out, and that He continues to seek and save the lost.
Lord Jesus, Thank You for Your passion to SEEK and to SAVE the lost. You sought and saved me. All praise to YOU!
