Isaiah 42:1

Are You A Delight to God?

03/03/2024

Have you ever considered that the Heavenly Father delights in Jesus? Yes, Jesus is God’s delight, as Isaiah 42:1 points out: “Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights.”

In a world full of evil, what a blessing it must be for the Heavenly Father to look at Jesus and say, “My soul delights in You.”

Reading that our Heavenly Father delights in Jesus stirs in me a longing for Him to delight in me, but I can’t imagine that being the case due to the fact I still sin.

Then again, could our Heavenly Father delight in us while not delighting in our sins? Yes. Proverbs 3:12 says, “For whom the Lord loves He reproves, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.”

Our Heavenly Father has set His affection on us. He loved us before we were saved (John 3:16). Now that we are saved, He corrects us like a loving father corrects his children.

So while celebrating God’s pure delight in Jesus, we can also mindfully learn what is pleasing to our Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, in whom Your soul DELIGHTS. Help us be more mindful of how we can live so that You delight in us.

Sports? Cooking? Work? In What Does Your Soul Delight

02/13/2024

How would you answer the question, “What brings you deep pleasure?” Or, who brings you deep pleasure? How would you fill in the blank? My soul delights in _________________. Did you say sports, music, family, friends, work, cooking, reading, or perhaps traveling?

It brings us to the next question. What brings our Heavenly Father deep pleasure? We find the answer in Isaiah 42:1.

“’Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen One in whom My soul delights.’”

God’s soul delights in Jesus, His Chosen One.

It causes me to wonder if our souls might experience more delight if we focused on Jesus, God’s Chosen One.

Rather than go through each day expecting “just another day,” we can open our eyes to all we have in Jesus: peace with our Heavenly Father, an inheritance awaiting us in heaven, daily provision, the presence of the Holy Spirit, someone who loves and cares for us.

Use today to focus your soul – mind, emotions, and will – on Jesus, God’s chosen One. Experience pleasure you might otherwise miss.

Jesus, God’s CHOSEN ONE, in whom the Heavenly Father’s soul delights, we love You. Thank you for the joy and peace You give us each day. Help us be more mindful of how our soul can delight in You regardless of our circumstances.

Are You A Delight to God?

03/02/2022

Have you ever considered that the Heavenly Father delights in Jesus? Yes, Jesus is God’s DELIGHT as Isaiah 42:1 points out. “Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul DELIGHTS.” In a world full of evil, what a blessing it must be for the Heavenly Father to look at Jesus and say, “My soul delights in You.” Reading His words stirs in me a longing for our Heavenly Father to delight in me, but I’m so mindful of my sin I can’t imagine that being the case. Then again, could our Heavenly Father delight in us, while not delighting in our sin? Yes.  Proverbs 3:12 says, “For whom the LORD loves He reproves, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.” Our Heavenly Father has set His affection on us. He loved us even before we were saved. (John 3:16) Now that we are saved, He loves and corrects us like we love and correct our children. So while celebrating God’s pure delight in Jesus, we learn what is pleasing to our Heavenly Father and how to walk by His Spirit so we can increasingly give Him reason to delight in us.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, in whom Your soul finds pure delight. Thank You for delighting in us while we learn to walk in Your ways.

How would you answer the question, “In what does your soul delight?” If someone asked me, I’d have to think for a minute. What about you? Would you say you’re “into” music? Or, would it be sports? Or your family? Or work? Or cooking?  Fill in the blank. My soul delights in _________________.  God the Father tells us in whom His soul delights.

“’Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My CHOSEN ONE in whom My soul delights.’”  Isaiah 42:1

Jesus is God the Father’s Chosen One. Sounds like a proud father watching His child, doesn’t it? I wonder if our souls would more often find delight if we kept our eyes on the CHOSEN ONE.

JESUS, GOD’S CHOSEN ONE, we worship and praise You. We delight in who You are!

Praise to the DELIGHT of God’s Soul

“Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul DELIGHTS. ”

Isaiah 42:1

Have you ever considered that the Heavenly Father delights in Jesus? That Jesus is God’s DELIGHT?  In a world full of evil, don’t you know it blesses Him to look upon His Son and say, “My soul delights in You?” What about us? Are we anxious and stressed – ever seeking to “arrive” at some point or place that will bring us delight? If so, perhaps we should follow our Heavenly Father’s example. His soul – His mind, emotions, and will delight in Jesus. Today, let’s sit back. Let’s open our Bibles and read of Christ’s gentle love and mercy. Let’s read of His great power – calming storms and calling His disciples to walk on water. Let’s delight our souls in Jesus.

Lord Jesus, You are God’s DELIGHT and the One in whom our soul delights.  We praise You!

CHOSEN ONE

06/24/2013

“’Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations.’”

Isaiah 42:1

Do you remember as a child what it felt like to be chosen to be on a team? It meant you were good. It meant you were special. The best were chosen first. Out of all of creation, Jesus is God’s Chosen. We need look no further. He is the One in whom God’s soul delights. Jesus is the One in whom our soul delights. He is the One who will bring forth justice to the nations. Now that’s a reason to praise!

LORD JESUS, GOD’S CHOSEN ONE, I worship, praise, and delight in You!
